About Klabin’s Puma Project
The Puma I Project in Paraná was designed with the goal of doubling Klabin’s production capacity within three years. The Puma Unit, resulting from the Puma I Project, had a total investment of R$ 8.5 billion allocated for the construction of the factory, which was inaugurated in 2016 and recognized as the largest private enterprise in Paraná until that time.
The unit in Ortigueira, Paraná, is self-sufficient in electricity generation, with a capacity of 270 MW (120 MW are used by Klabin, and the other 150 MW are supplied to the Brazilian electrical system). In comparison, the electricity generated is sufficient to supply a city of 500,000 inhabitants,
The Puma II Project will have two expansion phases until 2023, including the construction of two innovative paper machines (as mentioned above). The project will make Klabin the first company to produce Eukaliner paper in the world. In the project located in Paraná, approximately 9,000 jobs were created during the works, and 1,500 will be generated, both directly and indirectly, when the Puma II unit begins operations.
