How the New Hydroelectric Plant of Certel Will Be
The machine house of the new hydroelectric plant at the Eclusa Dam will be located on the banks of the Taquari River, which is part of the municipality of Cruzeiro do Sul. The capacity of the system will be 440 cubic meters per second. As a point of reference, the basin that drains the Forqueta River has the capacity to deliver 22 cubic meters of water per second.
The lock will generate a water drop of 10 meters in height to facilitate electricity production. The Certel substation in Estrela will be the recipient of the electricity generated at the site. The cooperative expects that the new plant will provide energy to about one hundred thousand customers.
Certel will partner with the company Bom Retiro Energia to carry out the construction of the project. According to the head of the cooperative, the project has not yet left Brasília and is being evaluated by the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel).
Next year (2023), according to projections, construction work on the dam will begin. From then on, the completion of the station will require a total of three years of work. The estimate is that during this period, the project will generate around 500 direct and indirect jobs, further benefiting families in the region.
