Petróleo Ocyan platform employment jet ski Guanabara Bay

Since 2014 Carlos Derval has been trying to reposition himself in the offshore oil market, which is why he entered Guanabara Bay and recorded a video to ask for help

After almost 5 years of economic recession that hit the oil industry and other sectors in Brazil, the market has been slowly recovering but it is still not enough to supply the amount of labor available in the market. The Southeast and Northeast were the regions of the country that suffered the most from the decrease and even the termination of large Petrobras contracts, as the Brazilian state-owned company is concentrating all its efforts on pre-salt exploration.

Unemployment was an unavoidable side effect and each one had to “make do in their own way”. Some have changed sectors, but there are others who like what they do and come up with unusual ways to get the attention of companies. It was from Carlos Derval, who is one of the followers of the Click Petróleo e Gás portal. In order to call the attention of the Ocyan company, he went by Jet Sky next to the Norbe VI probe thatwhich is in Guanabara Bay being prepared to fulfill Petrobras contracts, recorded an appeal video and with your permission, it was posted on our social media. At the end of this article it is possible to check the recording.

Ocyan answers him and all professionals in the oil sector

Have you ever heard of that old saying that “Marketing is the soul of business”? Incredibly, the video posted on our Facebook page and Linkedin had a huge impact, the company ended up watching the video and replied:

"Hello, Click Oil and Gas. We got in touch with Carlos Derval to say that we at Ocyan value determined and creative candidates, we appreciate his interest and the initiative to draw our attention in a distinctive way. We hope that his surprise visit followed all safety rules for navigation in this area. We take the opportunity to share that all our vacancies are posted on the Nossa Gente page on our website www.ocyan-sa.com and can also be accessed by www.vagas.com.br/vagas-de-ocyan. We currently have 3 open positions. “

Ocyan responding to Carlos Derval on the Click Petróleo e Gás page

As frustrating as it may seem, many companies are increasingly using resume registration sites to streamline selection processes. Ocyan uses the VAGAS.COM platform, which currently has around 1870 companies, one of the most used in Brazil.

The main complaint or frustration of many is that hardly anyone is called for a job interview through the platform. Understand, you are disputing a vacancy with practically thousands of people and in addition, companies use search filters, for example:

  • Delimit candidates by region
  • Choose age group of candidates
  • By area of expertise
  • Time experience
  • Others

Are civilians allowed to approach oil platforms?

If you notice Ocyan's message, it highlights the safety issue when approaching an offshore unit as a civilian, which is not on duty. The implicit message (or explicit, depending on the point of view) aims to inform that this is an illegal practice, which can compromise the safety of the operation and the person.

No case of Carlos Derval, before approaching the unit, it was approached by the Brazilian Navy, underwent inspection and was released as soon as it was obeying safety standards.  Read what the Navy says about this practice:

” This restriction aims to protect the installations and, consequently, the environment — but mainly, to guarantee the safety of people and workers involved in Petrobras' activities at sea.

There are several risks associated with vessels that improperly approach offshore platforms, such as the collision of the boat against the platform, interference with helipad operations, fire (due to the approach of boats to the platform burner) and damage to subsea facilities.

There is also the possibility of an explosion, since, as they operate with highly flammable products, the platforms' activities are carried out under strict procedures, including the suspension of the use of radio at critical times. Such guidelines, however, are not followed by unauthorized approaching vessels.

In addition, the approach of boats poses a high risk to professional divers who carry out maintenance activities on platforms and gas pipelines.

Failure to comply with this rule may result in penalties from the Navy. Carrying out fishing activities in this area can also lead to penalties from Ibama, including the arrest of those responsible, since such action is considered an environmental crime. In addition, in the event of damage to the platform, those responsible may be ordered to pay the damages.”

You are noticed by companies, including on social networks

This portal, for example, has about 2 million monthly accesses, many people enter to find out about employability issues and business in the energy sector. Everything you do and say on social media gets noticed. Beware of bad practices, including speaking BADLY ABOUT COMPANIES PUBLICLY, this is the classic of professional suicide.

In addition, many companies contact us asking to publicize vacancies and suggestions for guidelines. Try to be very active in your network in a positive way, showing expertise and ownership in what you are talking about. Afterwards, you can read an article by G1 here, talking exactly about the methodology used by HR companies to evaluate a profile on social networks.

Went to ask for a job as a JetSky on the Ocyan Platform

Carlos Derval went by JetSki on the Ocyan probe (literally) accompanied by his daughter asking for a job opportunity, as the impression is that the registration on the site does not work.

According to the warrior, he spent four years at “Pedra” looking for a replacement in the market.

The platform that Ocyan currently uses for its main recruitments is through the VAGAS.COM website, one of the most accessed and used in the country, the candidate may be disputing a vacancy with thousands at the same time. Always keep your registration updated and consistent with the role you want to play carefully, as your resumes are selected through search filters.
