The Green Step: Manaus Receives Its First Electric Bus and Aims for Decarbonization
Manaus is not joking when it comes to sustainable innovation. The city has just taken a green leap by putting its first electric bus on the streets.
The O 500 U Low Entry model is not just any bus: it is built on a Mercedes-Benz chassis and was developed by Eletra – Electric Traction Technology. The vehicle is already cruising smoothly on the route between the Federal University of Amazonas (UFAM) and the city center.
The Environmental Impact of the New Bus
Zero emissions. That’s right, you read that correctly. The bus features powerful batteries that not only prevent pollutant emissions but also guarantee a range of up to 250 kilometers. Not bad, huh?

Comfort with the Mercedes-Benz Seal
Don’t think that sustainability is the only focus here. With space for 70 people and wheelchair accessibility, the bus also offers air conditioning and Mercedes-Benz air suspension. In other words, in addition to being good for the planet, it is also a luxury for passengers.
Walter Barbosa, Director of Sales and Marketing for Buses at Mercedes-Benz Brazil, celebrated the initiative in his words. According to him, Manaus is in tune with environmental preservation and the renewal of the urban fleet, especially with the adoption of Euro 6 models that drastically reduce pollutant emissions.
