Understand who needs to update the registration, what the new requirements are, and how to avoid the suspension of the social benefit on the electricity bill
Initially, beneficiaries of the Social Electricity Tariff must update their registration data to maintain the discount.
Additionally, this measure occurs after changes defined by the National Electric Energy Agency, through Normative Resolution No. 1,147, published in December 2025.
At the same time, clients with inconsistencies in the Single Registry (CadÚnico) have already begun to be notified.
Therefore, these consumers will have until December 31, 2026 to regularize the situation.
If not, the benefit may be suspended.
Notifications have already started in seven states
Since February 2026, the Equatorial Group has started sending notifications.
Moreover, the communication occurs in the states of Maranhão, Pará, Piauí, Alagoas, Amapá, Rio Grande do Sul, and Goiás.

New rules require two mandatory conditions
Now, according to the new regulation from ANEEL, two requirements become mandatory.
Thus, the consumer must meet both criteria simultaneously.
- First, the account holder must be part of the family registered in CadÚnico.
- In addition, the municipality of the consumer unit must be the same as that reported in the social registration.
Thus, the notifications clearly indicate the inconsistency found.
Next, they guide how to regularize the situation.
How to regularize the registration and avoid losing the discount
When there is a discrepancy in ownership, the consumer can act in two ways.
That is, they can include the holder in the family registration with CRAS.
Or they can request the change of account ownership.
On the other hand, when there is a discrepancy in municipality, it will be necessary to update the CadÚnico.
In this case, the update must occur in the municipality of the consumer unit.
Additionally, it will also be possible to transfer the benefit to another account linked to the family.
Finally, when there are two inconsistencies, both must be corrected.
Notification channels and communication with consumers
Currently, notifications are being sent through various channels.
Among them, WhatsApp, institutional email, and correspondence stand out.
Moreover, messages can be delivered in person by commercial agents.
Especially when there is no registered digital contact.
The communications are personalized.
That is, they include the name of the holder and the account number.
Importance of the social tariff for low-income families
According to Diego Rivera Mendes, registration executive of the Equatorial Group, the program plays an essential role.
Furthermore, he emphasizes that the Social Electricity Tariff ensures access to energy for vulnerable families.
At the same time, the benefit promotes dignity, social inclusion, and security.
Consequently, it reduces the burden of the electricity bill on the family budget.
Therefore, keeping the data updated is fundamental.
Thus, more families can continue receiving the discount.
Federal program reduces the impact of the electricity bill
Currently, the Social Tariff is a program of the Federal Government.
Additionally, it operates in partnership with energy distributors.
The discount is applied progressively.
That is, it varies according to electricity consumption.
Thus, the main objective is to reduce the financial impact for low-income families.
Therefore, the program directly contributes to improving the quality of life.
In this scenario, updating the registration becomes indispensable.
Therefore, those who do not regularize their data may lose the benefit — and bear the full cost of the electricity bill?
