Chinese Want To Install Thermoelectric Plant In Maricá. Project With Potential Of 2.6 GW Aims To Consolidate The City As An Important Industrial Hub Of Natural Gas!

Excellent news for Macaé, on last Friday (09/02), Mayor Fabiano Horta received a delegation from the Chinese construction company Gezhouba Group Corporation (CGGC) to consolidate the protocol of intentions to build a thermoelectric plant in Maricá.

This is the second visit of the Chinese group to the city. The first took place in March this year when representatives of China Gezhouba Group Corporation (CGGC) sought information for implementing projects in the energy and natural gas sectors.

The construction of the Power Complex Maricá will undergo various feasibility studies before being initiated, including economic modeling, land concession, environmental licensing, auction for electric power generation, among others.

The installation of the plant aims to consolidate Maricá as an important industrial hub for natural gas, thus attracting companies from the sector.

The city’s mayor, Fabiano Horta, considered the interest of the Chinese group to be of utmost importance for the city and believes that its geographic location and the economic-financial stability achieved by the administration were decisive for choosing Maricá. “Today, we have a very stable and directed situation in the city, which provides the arrival of these investments that generate work and income for our population,” he stated.

Thermoelectric Plant Has The Potential To Generate 2,600 Megawatts Of Energy Evaluated Per Month.

The expectation of one of the negotiators, the CEO of CGGC in Brazil, Rafael Qi, is that the new plant will be installed in the city in the next five years.

“We are conducting the conceptual studies for this project, but the natural resources that we already know the city has, such as gas and oil, greatly favor the venture,” informed the executive, who highlighted that the thermoelectric plant has the potential to generate 2,600 megawatts of energy evaluated per month.

Maricá Is The Gateway Of Rota 3

The gas pipeline will bring gas from Búzios in the pre-salt of the Santos Basin – an asset that has the presence of the also Chinese CNOOC and CNODC, each with 3.7%.

The offshore gas pipeline comes ashore in Maricá and then connects to an onshore pipeline, which will take the gas to Itaboraí – where Petrobras is building the natural gas processing unit (UPGN) at the GasLub Polo (formerly Comperj).

The CGGC is considered the 33rd largest contractor in the world by contracted revenue and is currently executing projects in 100 offices spread across the globe.
