The Brazilian Navy published, on May 7, 2025, the announcement for the selection process for entry into the Maritime Officer Training Schools. The process aims to select qualified candidates to serve as Deck or Engineering Officers in the Brazilian Merchant Navy. A total of 374 vacancies were made available, with the start of school activities scheduled for February 2, 2026. Thus, the opportunities are distributed between the Almirante Graça Aranha Instruction Center in Rio de Janeiro, with 210 vacancies, and the Almirante Braz de Aguiar Instruction Center in Belém, with 164 vacancies. In this way, the selection follows the guidelines of the Navy’s Education Directorate, ensuring professional training aligned with the technical requirements of the maritime career.

Application Period and Participation Criteria

The candidate must apply between May 20 and June 2, 2025, exclusively through the CIAGA platform. The operating hours will be from 12 PM on May 20 until 11:59 PM on June 2, following Brasília time. The application fee is R$ 100.00. Candidates may submit requests for exemption until May 23, 2025, as provided in the announcement. Among the mandatory requirements for application are: Brazilian nationality (native or naturalized), completion of high school by the enrollment date (February 2026), age between 17 and 23 by January 1, 2026, height between 1.54m and 2.00m, and regularity with electoral and military obligations, when applicable. The selection committee will require the presentation of supporting documents at a later stage.

Stages of the Selection Process

According to the schedule released by the Navy, the selection process will consist of five eliminatory and qualifying phases. The committee will apply the knowledge test on August 2 and 3, 2025, covering the subject areas of Portuguese, Essay, English, Mathematics, and Physics, according to the official curriculum. The psychological and physical selection will take place in September 2025 and will include medical and psychological examinations conducted by Navy professionals. The committee will apply the physical fitness test between October and November 2025, requiring minimum performance in standardized exercises. The adaptation period is scheduled for January 2026 and will aim to introduce candidates to naval routines. The committee will verify the documentation on February 1, 2026, conducting the final check of mandatory documents. Candidates who complete all these stages will start classes on February 2, 2026.

Course Structure and Conditions During Training

The responsible team will divide the training into theoretical and practical classes, addressing content related to navigation, maritime engineering, onboard operations, and safety. The course will include simulators, a disciplined environment, and mandatory onboard internship. The institution will ensure students receive a monthly financial aid during the 12 months of the internship on ships, even if the internship ends before the maximum period. The internship is part of the pedagogical structure and is regulated by the Navy Command, ensuring that the practitioner receives financial support and qualified professional experience.

Validity of the Process and Official Monitoring

The selection process will be valid until the enrollment date, on February 2, 2026. Official information about the stages and results will be disclosed by the Navy’s Education Directorate on the CIAGA and CIABA portals, as well as in the Official Gazette of the Union.
