The North Fluminense Oil Workers Union, Sindipetro-NF, submitted an official letter demanding the interdiction of platform P-50 in the Campos Basin. According to reports, the environment is in poor conditions and poses risks to workers and the environment.
The document prepared by Sindipetro-NF was sent to the Public Labor Ministry, as well as to other oversight bodies, to ensure a thorough analysis by specialists regarding the proposed interdiction in the Campos Basin. The letter was prepared based on the statements of the platform P-50 workers themselves who know firsthand the risks posed by the poor conditions.
The Lack of Appropriate Infrastructure Is Affecting the Environment Every Day and Making Work on the Platform Unviable
Throughout the document, Sindipetro-NF justifies, based on reports, the urgency of the interdiction so that everyone can leave under dignified conditions. The statement is supported by the following argument: “The poor maintenance and habitability conditions reported make the administrative interdiction of the unit imperative and require action from the competent authorities. The vessel is undergoing a degradation process due to lack of investment and maintenance of its structure and machinery.”
Thus, it is possible to see that the problem stems from a larger order and points to a neglect of the platform in the Campos Basin that does not seem to be recent, as the poor conditions are so extreme that they require an interdiction.

Among the risks that directly affect the environment, the prepared letter reinforces that problems in the turbo-generators and failures in the water heating system were reported.
This point needs to function properly, as it influences the proper separation of oil and discarded water. When not done ideally, the Ocean can become contaminated with residues of oil released along with the water.
Workers Are Affected by the Conditions of Platform P-50, in the Campos Basin. Even the Bathrooms Are in Bad Condition
In addition to the environment, Sindipetro-NF’s letter also emphasizes the risks faced by workers in the Campos Basin.
The document states: “The structural poor conditions of the operational unit also directly reflect the precariousness of the crew’s living conditions on board. Various reports indicate that not even the bathrooms of the unit are fully operational. According to reports, in the location of the deck, of the total of 6 (six) bathrooms, only 1 (one) remains operational. In the location of the 2nd floor of the accommodation, of 4 (four) bathrooms, only 1 (one) is also functioning.”
Considering this scenario, the risks faced by employees directly affect the time needed to complete tasks.
Since they have to wait longer to use even the bathroom, this also impacts the quality of work, as the poor conditions affect everyone’s well-being.
Another additional piece of information worth mentioning is described in the document: “Moreover, the emergency generator and the auxiliary generator present leaks in the cooling system, constituting a risk for operational continuity in situations that require a longer duration of use for such equipment.”
In other words, there is a significant risk if emergencies occur on platform P-50.
The poor conditions were reported by Sindipetro-NF and list a multitude of risks. The letter was submitted demanding the interdiction of the platform in the Campos Basin and is awaiting the judgment of the competent bodies.
