Teachers from all over Brazil will be able to enroll in more than 1.2 million spots in free courses focused on inclusive education.
The MEC (Ministry of Education) has just launched an initiative that promises to transform inclusive education in Brazil. With more than 1.2 million spots in an inclusive education course, the program’s focus is to train basic education teachers to improve their service to special education students enrolled in regular classes. Enrollment for the first 250,000 spots will open on October 21, and classes are scheduled to start in March 2025.
The goal of the inclusive education course is to provide educators with the necessary tools to develop a more inclusive and effective pedagogical approach, promoting equal opportunities for all students, regardless of their special needs. With inclusive education gaining more prominence, the MEC seeks to prepare teachers to deal with this reality in a more practical and efficient manner, with the support of 50 higher education institutions that have already joined the program.
Training Focused on Inclusion
Based on data from the 2023 School Census, Brazil has approximately 1.5 million special education students enrolled in regular classes in public schools. This number reinforces the need for solid investment in the training of educators to ensure that these students receive the appropriate support in their academic journeys. Therefore, the MEC is offering this inclusive education course, which will directly impact the lives of thousands of teachers and, consequently, students across the country.

Courses Offered
The MEC’s inclusive education course will have a very comprehensive structure, divided into four main modules, addressing different aspects of inclusive education. Check out the topics that will be covered:
- Human Rights, Diversity, and Inclusive Education
- Human Development, Teaching, and Learning from the Perspective of Inclusive Education
- Curriculum, Technologies, and Inclusive Pedagogical Practices
- Practices, Resources, and Inclusive Pedagogical Materials in Schools
Each module will consist of teaching materials, interactive activities, case studies, and reports of practical experiences. In this way, participating teachers will be supported by tutors and will be assessed through the development of texts, projects, and the creation of pedagogical resources. With a workload of 120 hours, the training will focus on the development of inclusive pedagogical practices that can be directly applied in the classroom.
How the Selection Process Works
To apply for the inclusive education course, interested parties must be teachers working in basic education in public schools in Brazil. The enrollment starts on October 21 and can be done directly on the CAPES website or through the higher education institutions participating in the initiative. In total, 1.2 million spots will be offered by 2025, but the first stage, with 250,000 spots, will be filled in the coming months.
The training is aimed at all educators who wish to enhance their pedagogical practices, especially those who work with special education students in regular classes. The idea is to provide ongoing and quality training, focusing on inclusion and the development of strategies for increasingly accessible education.
Where to Enroll
Teachers interested in participating in the inclusive education course can enroll starting October 21 through the CAPES Portal. The enrollment process is simple and can be done completely online. It is necessary to fill out a form with personal data and submit the required documentation. Spots will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis, so it is important not to wait until the last minute!
