The Federal Police launched, on the morning of this Thursday (27), an operation targeting a national scheme for the clandestine production and sale of injectable weight loss substances.
Among those investigated is the doctor Gabriel Almeida, who has nearly 750,000 followers on social media.
The action is taking place simultaneously in four states: São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Bahia, and Pernambuco, and aims to dismantle a structure that, according to investigators, produced illegal drugs without any sanitary control.

The Federal Police claims that the goal is to trace who produced, distributed, and marketed the products and understand why the group was able to operate for so long.
Thus, the case has gained significant media attention for involving a well-known figure on the internet and for raising new alerts about the risks associated with consuming clandestine substances.
Who is the Doctor Investigated by the Federal Police
Gabriel Almeida publicly presents himself as a doctor, writer, speaker, medical professor, and entrepreneur.
He gained visibility by publishing explanatory videos about weight loss, as well as books focused on the same topic.
His office, the GA Center (Gabriel Almeida), operates on Avenida Brasil, in the Jardins, one of the most upscale areas of São Paulo.
The clinic also has units in Bahia and Pernambuco, expanding the professional’s reach beyond social media.
In one of his recent posts, he discussed whether the substance could reduce compulsive behaviors.
Investigations Reveal Clandestine Structure Linked to Illegal Drugs
According to the Federal Police, the investigations show that the doctor would be part of a group responsible for illegally producing and distributing tirzepatide.
This active ingredient, which should only be manipulated under strict safety standards, was being manufactured in irregular locations.
The Federal Police claims that the gang maintained a structure for filling, labeling, and distribution completely outside the norms of sanitary surveillance.
Operation Slim: How the Federal Police Action Took Place
The operation, dubbed Operation Slim, is executing 24 search and seizure warrants at clinics, laboratories, businesses, and residences linked to those investigated.
The action has the support of Anvisa and the Sanitary Surveillance of São Paulo, Bahia, and Pernambuco, reinforcing the collaborative nature of the investigation.
Risks and Impact of the Circulation of Illegal Drugs
Thus, the operation reignites the debate over the growing clandestine market for weight loss medications.
Unregistered and uncontrolled products pose risks to life, especially when it comes to injectable substances that require strict sterility standards.
Therefore, with the developments of the investigation, the expectation is for new clarifications regarding the extent of the scheme and the possible criminal responsibilities of those involved.
