The Brazilian nautical market surpasses the global crisis caused by the coronavirus and earned R$ 2 billion just last year, according to data from the Brazilian Association of Boat Builders and Their Implements, ACOBAR. And it doesn’t stop there, the sector promises to grow 10% this year creating lines for yacht purchases.
Looking at the expansion of the Brazilian market, international manufacturers are starting to build their vessels in Brazil, bringing their models to the country in hopes of attracting buyers or perhaps even investors, since the boat rental market here is also appealing.
To give you an idea, the mega yacht Azimut Grande 27 Metri, the same model recently purchased by player Cristiano Ronaldo and valued at R$ 50 million, has already sold nine models in Brazil and currently has a waiting list of 15 months. The luxury vessel started production in Santa Catarina in 2020.

According to Ernani Paciornik, president of the Nautical Group, which organizes the Rio Boat Show and also the São Paulo Boat Show, the demand for yachts goes beyond the world of millionaires. “You can start by buying a boat for R$ 50,000 and then think about acquiring a larger one,” he says. Paciornik explains that the success of recent years is a direct reflection of the pandemic and social isolation.
“People have realized that leisure is important and have seen boats as an option. It’s like a country house, but the boat is an island and takes you anywhere,” he says. Brazil has more than seven thousand kilometers of coastline, not to mention the rivers and reservoirs that also welcome the presence of vessels.
For him, buying a boat, whether a luxury yacht or a more economical model, is like having “a second car.” Something possible for a certain segment of the middle class. For those who wish to acquire a luxury or economical vessel, there are banks that offer financing.
