Contract Holding Company of UPGN at Comperj Wins Another Furnace Maintenance Contract at Cubatão Refinery and Approaches 200 Contracts of This Type
Metodo Potencial Engenharia demonstrated its strength and is celebrating the acquisition of another furnace maintenance contract; this time the services will be at the Presidente Bernardes-RPBC Refinery, located in Cubatão, São Paulo.
The shutdown contract awarded is the 189th that the company has won throughout Brazil and is being celebrated for its importance.
The Presidente Bernardes Refinery is a refinery located in the municipality of Cubatão, in the state of São Paulo, owned by Petrobras, with an installed capacity of 170 thousand barrels/day.
The Presidente Bernardes was the first large refinery constructed by Petrobras, shortly after its creation. The construction was the result of an investment plan by the Brazilian government in the post-war period.

When inaugurated on April 16, 1955, the refinery in Cubatão was responsible for 50% of the national market. Today, it supplies 8% of the national production of derivatives.
The Executor of the Contract
Potencial Engenharia is the business unit of Método, recognized as one of the leading service providers in the construction, assembly, and industrial maintenance market.
With more than two decades of experience, Potencial Engenharia has developed the necessary skills to operate in large and complex projects in the oil and gas, steel, mining, and energy segments, among others.
Currently, another highlight project for Metodo is at COMPERJ, where in partnership with the Chinese company Kerui, it is working on the UPGN (Natural Gas Processing Unit), which gained importance with the statement from Petrobras declaring that the intention is to use natural gas from the Pre-salt to generate electricity.
The withdrawal from the refinery construction aligns with the government’s agenda to reduce Petrobras’s participation in refining, and the construction of a thermoelectric plant at the site has gained traction.
