North Star SA is the first precious metals refinery in the northern region and is investing more than R$50 million to increase its gold production

The first precious metal refinery in northern Brazil, the North Star SA., is one of the few that have an international standard of performance in the national territory, in terms of quality for operations. In an announcement this past Wednesday (11) the mayor of Belém and the secretary of the Environment of Pará stated that the company received a License to Operate (LO) and will start its activities associated with sustainable development in 2022.

To prepare its employees, mostly from Pará, and improve its structure, the North Star SA refinery invested R$50 million and promises to become responsible for 25% of the national production of gold in Brazil. The company is based on ESG policies (Environmental, Social & Governance), that is, focusing on the three main pillars of society: Environmental, Social and Governance. In addition, the refinery follows an international standard of operating quality.

North Star SA has state-of-the-art technology to extract metals and promote sustainable development with jobs in the region

The license won by North Star SA will be a “watershed” in the North of Brazil and bring more technology to the region, in addition to increasing jobs. However, the refinery has extensive planning for the entire production chain, aiming at sustainable development and expanding exports of ores from Brazil.

The refinery estimates an initial production of approximately 24 tons of gold per year and to reach 48 tons over time, which is equivalent to 25% of all gold produced in Brazil. In this way, the company intends to generate several jobs involving transport, refining and security. Still according to the National Mining Agency (ANM), gold is one of the most important minerals for the national economy, as Brazil has a turnover of R$14,2 billion annually due to the extraction of the ore.

However, the refinery will use state-of-the-art technology to highlight the North region of Brazil, making the country an exporter of refined gold with international standards of 24k, in other words, with 99,9% purity. As the productive chain for exploring and refining gold is complex, sustainable development can be seen in several sectors, since it will bring greater consumption of national products and inputs and generate greater training and jobs.

The refinery acquired Italian equipment that optimize processes and reduce the impact on the environment, contributing to sustainable development

Thinking about sustainability, North Star brought refining equipment from Italy, as they are the reference in the international market for the treatment of gold. All procedures are rigorously controlled by the machines and the gases emitted during the steps go straight to an exhaust that leads to an acid neutralization compartment for release into nature.

However, not only the activities involved in refining gold that are based on sustainable development, but the chain as a whole. After all, the refinery claims that ESG principles are the basis of everything that happens within the company, from hiring people from the region to selecting clients and encouraging green initiatives. Therefore, the company also exercises its social responsibility, employing those most in need and providing qualification and training for a profitable activity.

After all, who is the North Star Refining SA?

It is first precious metal refinery in northern Brazil and is located in Belém, Pará. With innovative solutions based on sustainable development, it is a company that aims to bring social and environmental benefits to the northern region, employing local labor and encouraging green initiatives by its customers. In this way, the refinery intends to become one of the most important in Brazil, adding value to national gold.
