Minas Gerais is set to receive over R$ 100 billion in investments for road and railway works, with new projects and concessions by 2026.

Minas Gerais will be the stage for one of the largest cycles of investments in transportation infrastructure in the country. The announcement was made by representatives of the Ministry of Transport this Monday (23), in Belo Horizonte, during an event that brought together authorities and sector specialists.

The plan provides for over R$ 100 billion allocated to works, expansion of roads, and strengthening of railways in the state. The initiative aims to modernize logistics, boost the regional economy, and improve mobility in different areas of Minas Gerais.

In addition, the resources will be applied through structured projects that include concessions, resumption of halted works, and increased participation of the private sector. The strategy, according to the government, aims to unlock historical bottlenecks and ensure greater efficiency in the transportation of goods and passengers.

Investments in Minas Gerais boost works and infrastructure

In recent years, Minas Gerais has taken a prominent position in the national investment portfolio for infrastructure. This is mainly due to the revision of contracts and changes in how projects are structured.

According to data presented at the event, around R$ 7 billion has already been recently invested in roads and railways in the state. This amount represents a significant leap compared to previous periods when annual contributions were considerably lower.

Moreover, the increase in investments is directly linked to the recovery of public resources, especially in the railway sector. This has made it possible to expand the capacity to execute new works and accelerate strategic projects.

Roads in Minas Gerais concentrate the largest volume of investments

A large portion of the investments in Minas Gerais is directed towards roads. In total, over R$ 62 billion is allocated to projects already contracted or underway, in addition to new contributions planned for the coming years.

Among the highlights is the project known as Rotas Gerais, which involves sections of BR-116 and BR-251. The initiative connects dozens of municipalities and anticipates around R$ 13 billion in investments, focusing on improving infrastructure and road safety.

Another relevant example is the concession of BR-381, also known as Fernão Dias. The project anticipates approximately R$ 14 billion for modernization, capacity expansion, and accident reduction over hundreds of kilometers.

Meanwhile, several other roads, such as BR-135, BR-367, BR-356, and BR-265, are also undergoing significant interventions. Many of these works had been halted for years and have now been resumed, contributing to regional development.

Railways gain strength with new investments in Minas Gerais

The railway sector will also play a fundamental role in this new cycle of investments in Minas Gerais. The forecast is for around R$ 38 billion allocated to the expansion and modernization of the railway network.

Among the main projects are the renewal of contracts and the expansion of important lines, such as the Centro-Atlântica Railway and other strategic connections. These initiatives are essential to increase the state’s logistical competitiveness.

Additionally, the contractual review has allowed for the recovery of billions in resources, which will now be reinvested in the railway system itself. Thus, the government aims to strengthen cargo transportation, reducing costs and increasing efficiency.

New auctions expand investments in roads and railways

Another important point is the advancement of concessions as a strategy to attract investments in Minas Gerais. In the last three years, several road auctions have been held across the country.

For 2026, the expectation is for new auctions, including relevant projects in the state. These processes are fundamental to ensure private resources and accelerate the execution of works in roads and railways.

Furthermore, the improvement in the regulatory environment has increased investor confidence. With clearer rules and predictability, the sector becomes more attractive to companies interested in participating in the projects.

Works in Minas Gerais advance with the resumption of halted projects

Currently, Minas Gerais has over 300 works underway in the transportation sector. This number reflects the government’s effort to resume projects that had been stalled for decades.

One of the most emblematic cases is that of BR-135, which faced obstacles for about 20 years due to environmental issues. Now, with the problems resolved, the work is progressing and contributing to the integration between different states.

Additionally, the optimization of contracts has also been used to enable new investments. This mechanism allows for adjustments to existing agreements and ensures the continuity of essential projects.

Minas Gerais consolidates as a hub for infrastructure investments

With this significant volume of investments, Minas Gerais consolidates itself as one of the main infrastructure hubs in Brazil. The state plays a strategic role in the flow of production and national logistical integration.

At the same time, investments in roads and railways are expected to generate positive impacts on the economy, such as job creation and increased competitiveness. This strengthens not only the state but also the country as a whole.

Finally, the expectation is that the projects will advance consistently in the coming years. Thus, Minas Gerais will be able to reap the benefits of a more modern, efficient infrastructure prepared for the future.
