Pre-Salt Projects Spark Interest from Ocyan and Company to Expand Portfolio, Capable of Building Platforms for Up to 150,000 Barrels of Oil Per Day for Companies Like Petrobras
Ocyan is preparing to manage new businesses in pre-salt oil fields and is eyeing contracts worth hundreds of millions of dollars to build platforms for clients such as Petrobras to operate in deep waters, as the state-owned company is focusing on offshore operations and divesting from onshore assets.

According to Ocyan’s CEO Roberto Bischoff, in a video conference interview, the offshore oil industry supplier intends to participate in Petrobras tenders to produce units with an average processing capacity of up to 150,000 barrels per day.
Even with the coronavirus pandemic and recurring drops in oil prices, Bischoff claims that the oil and gas fields in the pre-salt operated by Petrobras ensure greater security for long-term projects.

Ocyan’s New Business Marks a Return of the Company to the Market
In 2014, when revelations of the Lava Jato corruption scandal began, culminating in the arrest of the president of Odebrecht, Petrobras temporarily blocked Ocyan (formerly known as Odebrecht Oil and Gas until 2018), which was suspended from entering into new contracts.
After the restrictions were lifted, the company secured its first contract with Petrobras in 2019 for a drilling platform for the Brazilian pre-salt waters.
Construction Works for Oil Platforms for Petrobras in Brazil
The vast majority of Petrobras platforms are currently being built in shipyards in China, Singapore, and other Asian countries. Brazil has spent almost the entire last decade without new contracts to build units on its territory.
However, the state-owned company’s announcement to charter 3 FPSO (Floating Production and Storage Unit) ships for the Búzios field in the pre-salt of the Santos Basin has left national shipbuilding on alert.
According to company executives in a webinar with analysts, the resumption of platform construction in Brazil is possible, but the location of the works will be decided by the winning companies of the contracts.
