New Affordable Motorcycle Promises To Leave Yamaha And Honda Behind. Bajaj Enters The National Market With A New Factory And A Motorcycle Priced At Up To R$ 4 Thousand.

The arrival of a new motorcycle manufacturer in Brazil promises to revolutionize the national market, currently dominated by Honda and Yamaha. Bajaj Auto, the Indian giant in the two-wheeler segment, announced the inauguration of its first factory outside India, located in the Industrial Hub of Manaus, Amazonas. With ambitious plans, Bajaj intends to launch an affordable motorcycle with an estimated price of R$ 4 thousand, offering an accessible and competitive option for Brazilian consumers.

New Bajaj Factory Will Have Capacity To Produce 20 Thousand Vehicles Per Year

The factory unit of the new “headache” for Honda and Yamaha has a production capacity of 20 thousand vehicles per year and is expected to start operating in the second half of the year. The goal is to win over Brazilian customers with highly efficient, yet still accessible models.

Until the establishment of the unit, the Bajaj motorcycles sold in the country were assembled by the Dafra under Complete Knock Down (CKD) regime. Now, the products are developed at the Indian company’s own factory, which currently has 150 employees.

According to the company, the choice of Brazil as the location for its first factory outside India is a strategy based on the increase in motorcycle sales in the country, which was 21.07% in the first quarter of 2024. The national Bajaj two-wheeler fleet exceeds 33 million vehicles and continues to expand continuously and rapidly in the wake of delivery services.

Bajaj Sells Motorcycle For About R$ 4 Thousand

In the national market, Bajaj’s rivals to Honda and Yamaha sell the models Dominar 160, Dominar 200, and Dominar 400. The latter is the best-selling model in the Brazilian market and was chosen as the first to be produced at the new plant in Manaus.

Bajaj finished the first half of this year with 3,617 motorcycles sold, over 140% growth compared to the same period last year and 46% compared to the second half of last year.

To celebrate the success, the manufacturer confirmed the launch of a fourth affordable motorcycle in the national catalog, the Dominar 250, equipped with a single-cylinder engine of 248.8 cm³, which generates up to 27 hp at 8,500 rpm and 2.4 kgfm of torque at 6,500 rpm. The transmission is a six-speed manual.

Another attractive option from Bajaj, a rival to Yamaha and Honda that would be quite interesting in Brazil is the Platina 110, sold in the Indian market for 72,224 rupees, equivalent to about R$ 4,545 (WITHOUT FEDERAL AND STATE TAXES). The motorcycle features an air-cooled single-cylinder engine of 115.5 cm³, which can deliver 8.7 hp at 7,000 RPM and 0.98 kgfm of torque at 5,000 RPM, combined with a 5-speed transmission.

Even being an affordable motorcycle, the model delivers a disc brake with ABS on the front wheel, a catalytic converter, a fuel gauge, and a gear indicator. The launch of the R$ 4 thousand motorcycle in the national market has not been confirmed, but it would be great for the brand.

Bajaj Investing Heavily In The National Market

The brand, a rival to Yamaha and Honda, is not just focused on vehicle production, with the arrival of the R$ 4 thousand motorcycle. The company is also expanding its network of dealerships in Brazil, with new units planned for cities like Belo Horizonte and Salvador.

Additionally, it is establishing partnerships with financial institutions, such as Âncora Consórcios, to facilitate access to attractive financing schemes. These initiatives are aimed at making Bajaj motorcycles even more accessible to the general public.
