Directing Billions to Brazil’s Future Energy

The oil and gas industry in Brazil plans to mobilize an estimated R$ 102 billion in investments by 2025, according to joint forecasts from the Brazilian Association of Oil Service Companies (Abespetro) and Deloitte. However, the disbursement of these funds must be guided by insightful strategies that not only optimize financial return but also mitigate environmental impact.

In this article written by Augusto Borella, technology director at Viasat, INTELIE, we address three significant trends that are set to shape the industry landscape in the coming years.

The Awakening of Energy Transition

Energy transition is reshaping the way we view energy production and consumption. The urgency for cleaner and more sustainable energy sources, such as solar and wind, is growing at an unprecedented pace globally, pressuring governments to adopt policies that foster a low-carbon economy.

In 2022, the accelerated pace of change culminated with the approval of the Inflation Reduction Act in the United States (IRA), an action that provides billions of dollars and incentives for initiatives that penalize major emitters.

Brazil is also following the march toward greener practices. According to a study conducted by the Climate Observatory, although Brazil is classified as the fifth largest emitter of greenhouse gases, the forecast is for a 36% reduction in emissions by 2030.

Betting on the Technological Revolution

Technology emerges as a key enabler, helping companies maximize efficiency in oil production and minimize operational costs. The main barrier to be overcome lies in data integration and security, which are the foundations of process automation and artificial intelligence (AI).

As companies embark on the journey of digital maturity, a first step is to gather all data on a single platform, followed by a more focused emphasis on the quality of the data collected.

Furthermore, the interaction between humans and technology must be optimized, which implies investing in strategies that connect professionals to digital tools that simplify their daily activities and enhance their effectiveness.
