To Avoid a Fine or Have Your DL Suspended, Drivers Must Know the Main Traffic Laws and Drive Cautiously.

Driving on public roads requires responsibility and respect for the traffic rules established by the Brazilian Traffic Code (CTB). Unfortunately, many drivers risk not only their lives but also those of other road users by committing serious infractions. These actions not only endanger the safety of everyone but also result in severe penalties, including fines that can reach up to R$ 5,869.40 and the suspension of the National Driver’s License (CNH).

Offenses That Can Result in Fines and Suspended DL

The CTB details various situations where drivers can be penalized with high fines and the temporary suspension of their CNHs.

Know the Five Main Offenses

Article 165

Driving under the influence of alcohol or other psychoactive substances that cause dependence is subject to a fine of up to R$ 2,934.70, as well as CNH suspension and vehicle removal.

In cases of repeat offenses, the fine can double to R$ 5,869.40.

Article 173

Participating in unauthorized races results in a fine of up to R$ 2,934.70, CNH suspension, and vehicle seizure. Repeat offenses can double the fine amount.

Article 174

Organizing or participating in unauthorized competitions on public roads results in a fine, CNH suspension, and vehicle seizure, with amounts that can reach R$ 5,869.40 in case of repeat offenses.

Article 175

Engaging in risky maneuvers such as sudden accelerations or skidding results in a fine and CNH suspension, with even harsher penalties in case of repeat offenses.

Article 191

Forcing overtaking in risky situations is subject to a fine and CNH suspension, with amounts that double in case of repeat offenses.

Respecting traffic rules not only avoids fines, severe penalties, or the collection of the CNH, but also contributes to the safety of all users of public roads.

Knowing the traffic laws and acting responsibly are essential attitudes for safer traffic and for preserving one’s own life and the lives of others involved.
