According to the German company, a new factory will be built in Uibaí (BA) to produce the concrete towers for the wind farm, which at peak construction will employ up to 350 people. The wind turbines will be developed at the company’s factory in Simões Filho (BA).
“We have a culture of installing a factory close to the projects we participate in, aiming to reduce logistical costs. This new concrete tower unit, at peak construction, will employ up to 350 people. We will prioritize local labor, just as we have done in two other units of this type in Brazil,” said the sales director of the Nordex Group in Brazil, David Lobo.

About The Contract With Statkraft
At the end of 2020, Statkraft Energias Renováveis, the Brazilian subsidiary of Europe’s largest producer of renewable energy, the Norwegian Statkraft, placed a large-scale order with the Nordex Group for 91 wind turbines of the N163/5.X model, each with a power output of 5.7 MW, for a wind energy project of 518.7 MW in Brazil.
The execution of the “Ventos de Santa Eugenia” wind farm project, which will be built near Uibaí in the state of Bahia, with Statkraft will start in the second half of 2021, also encompassing the production of the wind turbines at Nordex’s factory in Simões Filho.
Commissioning is scheduled for early 2023. The turbines will be supplied in an optimized operation mode of 5.7 MW and will be installed on 120-meter concrete towers.
20-Year Contract
The wind energy order from Statkraft also includes a premium service contract covering three years, as well as technical support for the customer and turbines for a period of 20 years.
“We are very pleased that Statkraft has chosen our turbine technology and we thank them for the trust placed in us to equip their largest wind farm in South America. With this Delta4000 series turbine, specifically designed for moderate and medium wind sites, Statkraft will be able to produce clean wind energy at low energy costs and provide the electricity needed for the Brazilian market,” says Patxi Landa, Nordex Group CSO.
Nordex Investments In Brazil
The German focus on Brazil is total. Its business plan for the coming years reflects the fact that Brazil alone accounts for 13% of the company’s sales, being a significant highlight.
“The market has changed a lot in recent years due to the Free Market. In the past, we were very tied to auctions. The Free Market has come in and is increasingly growing. I see a strong demand for new machines in the next three or four years. The wind source is already in our DNA, with some challenges with solar and natural gas. But wind energy has performed well. So I believe it will be a lasting business in the next few years. There will be a lot of demand”, concludes the sales director of the Nordex Group in Brazil.
