The contract between BAE Systems and the Brazilian Navy provides for the provision of support and maintenance services for the ARTISAN radar on the NAM Atlântico ship for the next five years, aiming at greater safety and operational quality on the vessel.

Last Tuesday (26/07), the company BAE Systems announced the signing of a contract with the Brazilian Navy to support its ARTISAN radar on the multipurpose aircraft carrier (NAM) Atlântico of the Brazilian organization. In this way, it will be guaranteed services support, maintenance and delivery of equipment on the ship for the next five years and the Brazilian Navy will benefit from more operational safety during the period of the agreement.

The multinational company of services and equipment for the aeronaval industry BAE Systems announced another one of its large contracts in the Brazilian territory, this time with the Brazilian Navy, for the provision of support and maintenance activities to its ARTISAN radar on the ship NAM Atlântico for the next years. In addition, the contract also provides for services to BAE Systems' DNA2 Combat System, installed on the ship, in order to provide operational availability for the flagship.

The agreement has a final term of five years and can be renewed by the Brazilian Navy if necessary and provides for the delivery of support services and preventive maintenance on the ARTISAN radar to ensure more safety for the NAM Atlântico ship. Furthermore, the agreement also includes the supply of spare parts, which will be manufactured by BAE Systems in the United Kingdom and installed in Brazil, as well as a help-desk service, which will be operated remotely from the United Kingdom, to assist teams in Brazil. .

The company BAE Systems will also be responsible for periodic technical visits to the Navy Arsenal in Rio de Janeiro, located in the region of Guanabara Bay. During these visits, lectures and short courses will also be held on the maintenance and operation of the ARTISAN radar, as a way of sharing information and knowledge with the workers of the Brazilian Navy, which was established in the agreement.

The company's radar is essential for the ship and provides NAM Atlântico with surface and air surveillance and air traffic management for fixed and rotary wing aircraft, ensuring more quality and safety in navigation. 

Brazilian Navy celebrates ARTISAN radar support services contract signed with BAE Systems and reinforces importance for NAM Atlântico 

The General Director of Navy Materiel, Fleet Admiral José Augusto Vieira da Cunha de Menezes, commented on the importance of the support agreement and stated: “The signing of the contract represents a relevant step towards guaranteeing the full availability of the Combat and of the ARTISAN radar of the ATLÂNTICO Multipurpose Airfield Ship. It is an important commitment assumed by BAE Systems with the Brazilian Navy, not only in maintaining the operational capacity of our Captaincy, but also in the transfer of knowledge to our personnel”.

Laurie Ellis, Radar Manager for the marine sector at BAE Systems, highlighted that this is the perfect time to invest in safety and quality of navigation which will be a great opportunity for the UK radar operation and for the team to provide support, capability and expertise to the Brazilian Navy.

Now, the Brazilian Navy finalizes the details of the 5-year agreement with the company BAE Systems and hopes to start taking advantage of services on the ARTISAN radar soon, thus expanding operational safety in the activities carried out by the ship NAM Atlântico.
