There Are 12 Ongoing Campaigns to Seek New Oil Sources, 3D/4D Data, and Execute New Drilling Through Information from Seismic Ships That Will Soon Be Operational
Seismic Ships will soon be fully operational in Brazilian waters in search of more oil and updated data in our sedimentary basins. It turns out that since 2017, there have been 12 requests for the release of activities at Ibama, and we have just learned that they will be sanctioned soon, with Petrobras being the largest requester of these services at the moment, along with CGG Veritas, Seaseep, Polarcus, Seabed Geosolutions, and other specialized companies in these types of operations.
Understand How Seismic Ships Work
They are vessels that use cables and sensors several meters long that are towed in the sea. These systems emit “sound explosions” towards the ocean floor, which reflects back as 3D images, similar to sonar. There are more advanced equipment that can now emit ultrasound signals, which can be visualized in 4D, providing more complete profiling information and more accurate data. Interesting and Explanatory Video
Importance of Seismic for the Segment
As mentioned above and as you saw in the photo and video, only through seismic data is it possible to discover economically viable oil fields on the ocean floor. If the data is satisfactory, drilling campaigns will commence, and it is precisely this mode that drives the offshore market and employs many professionals, mostly technicians and engineers directly, with many indirect jobs. After the licenses are approved by Ibama later this year, in 2019, the Campos, Santos, Sergipe, and Foz do Amazonas Basins will be quite busy.
This explains why Petrobras and Transpetro suddenly began opening contests one after another. The race against time to qualify and specialize professionals is short, and the chartered units will need all available operational staff. The ports used by these vessels will be: CIA DOCAS do Rio de Janeiro – CDRJ, Terminal I of the Niterói Port Complex, Porto do Forno in Arraial do Cabo, Porto de Imbetiba in Macaé, or Porto do Açu in São João da Barra.
