Octans Aircraft is studying the possibility of building a new factory in the Northeast and the state of Ceará has proven to be one of the strong candidates.

Octans Aircraft, an aircraft manufacturer that operates in all phases, from project design to final assembly and delivery to customers, plans to build a new factory with investments of R$ 50 million in the Northeast region. Ceará has proven to be one of the strong candidates to take the dispute and the three possible areas in the state are: Sobral, Aracati and Eusébio. The possible departure of the aircraft manufacturer to Ceará

The information was revealed on Thursday (23/09), on the Diário do Nordeste website by Raimundo Gomes de Matos, director of planning at the Superintendence of Northeast Development (Sudene), an institution sought to analyze the proposal. According to Raimundo, the company has a closed portfolio for the delivery of 20 planes and, initially, requested support to train Northeastern professionals and take them to the factory in São João da Boa Vista (SP). Sudene's support is conditioned to a National Register of Legal Entities (CNPJ) registered in the Region.

Sudene's Planning Director also said that “We did this work of convincing to bring the factory here and he (CEO of Octans Aircraft) accepted. At first, the municipality of Campina Grande was considered, but we had some difficulties there because the area belongs to the state government. So, we sensitized them to come to Ceará”.

Possible areas for installing the factory in Ceará

The area considered for the operation of the factory in Aracati is located at the airport of the municipality where, until 2019, the base of TAM Executive Aviation operates. The space in Sobral is also the responsibility of the State Government, while a private company is responsible for the third possibility, where a helicopter workshop is located.

“He (company representative) has his own resources. We did a study of the proposal and it is economically viable. We have these spaces that would be negotiated with the government and city hall, but he is also looking for private partnerships to have more options”, says Matos. The decision on where the R$ 50 million investment will be made should come out in the next two months, he says, bearing in mind that there is already a portfolio of projects to be delivered.

Desaer – Desenvolvimento Aeronáutico – has plans to build its aircraft factory in the city of Araxá, in the state of Minas Gerais, with the aim of producing the ATL-100 twin-engine aircraft (light transport aircraft). Work at the aircraft factory is expected to begin in the second half of this year. The company was founded by engineer Evandro Fernandes Fileno, who left Embraer in 2016 to create the ATL-100 and then found Desaer.

Despite plans to build the new aircraft factory in the state of Minas Gerais, Desaer will maintain its office at Incubaero, a business and project incubator created by the Casimiro Montenegro Filho Foundation, located in São José dos Campos, in the state of São Paulo . The trip to Minas Gerais took place after dialogues with several states, among them, Espírito Santo, Goiás and São Paulo.

Desaer currently has seven partners and 40 employees. According to the founder of Desaer, currently Brazil has more than a thousand certified airfields, but only about 65 are used frequently and according to him, many cities have a runway to receive planes, but do not have flights.
