Municipalities contemplated with offshore wind energy

To be carried out in the municipalities of Touros, São Miguel do Gostoso and Pedra Grande, the offshore wind energy work should take two to three years to start, according to a previous statement from the head of BI Energia, Lucio Bomfim.

BI Energia is currently working on a EUR-1 billion (US$1,2 billion) offshore wind project in the state of Ceará. The company also plans to invest BRL 5 billion in the previously announced offshore wind sector in Rio Grande do Norte.

About BI Energy

BI Energia is one of the pioneers in investing in offshore wind farms in Brazil. Currently, the company has a project in Ceará, which started in 2016, for the installation of 59 towers, at a cost of 1 billion euros. The businessmen's expectation is that the experience with the project in Ceará will help speed up the process in Rio Grande do Norte.

The project for the Potiguar coast foresees a wind farm with an area of 300 km², with 52 wind turbines of 12 MW of installed power (totaling a park of 624 MW). Two electrical substations will also be built; a navy one for tension elevation and a terrestrial one for transition. According to the company, the expected wind energy production forecast is 3.154.805,6 MWh in the year (3,1 Gwh/year).
