ApexBrasil Seeks to Enhance Sustainable Energies in the Region with European Support
The Brazilian Agency for the Promotion of Exports and Investments (ApexBrasil) is present at the world’s largest green hydrogen event, the World Hydrogen Summit & Exhibition 2024 in Rotterdam, Netherlands. From May 13 to 14, the agency will join forces with key representatives from the energy sector to attract investments that can solidify Brazil’s Northeast as a leader in clean and sustainable energy production.
Leading Role of the Northeast in Green Hydrogen Production
During the event, which gathers over 15,000 professionals and 500 exhibitors, ApexBrasil will promote a space dedicated to business and international partnerships, featuring participation from giants such as Eletrobras, the Brazilian Wind Energy Association, and various institutions focused on green hydrogen. This meeting aims not only to strengthen existing trade relationships but also to pave new paths for the sustainable development of the region.
A Shared Vision by Leaders
Jorge Viana, president of ApexBrasil, emphasizes the importance of this initiative: “The energy transition to a low-carbon economy is not only a necessity in the face of the global climate crisis but also a substantial opportunity for Brazil, especially for the Northeast. Our goal is to support the states in this region in attracting foreign investments that can project Brazil as an energy powerhouse, thereby accelerating regional growth.”

Fátima Bezerra, president of the Northeast Consortium and governor of Rio Grande do Norte, reinforces the region’s commitment to sustainability and energy innovation: “The Northeast has been leading the way in adopting practices that preserve our environment and promote the development of renewable energies, such as green hydrogen. This mission in Europe is crucial for us to continue advancing in these initiatives.”
The Revolutionary Potential of Green Hydrogen
Green hydrogen emerges as a promising energy solution, capable of revolutionizing the global energy market. Due to its superior energy storage capacity compared to other fuels and the feasibility of its production via renewable sources such as wind and solar, green hydrogen presents an unprecedented opportunity for sustainable energy development.
Brazil, and more specifically the Northeast, has unique advantages due to its high incidence of sun and wind, essential factors for the production of green hydrogen. It is estimated that the cost of producing this form of energy in Brazil is the lowest among G20 countries, according to Bloomberg data.
Continuous Engagement After the Event
After its participation in the event in Rotterdam, the Northeast Consortium delegation will continue its journey to Brussels, where they will have meetings at the headquarters of the European Union. Accompanied by ApexBrasil and the Brazilian Mission to the EU, the governors will present the investment opportunities available in the Northeast, seeking to establish strategic partnerships that reinforce the region’s position as a green hydrogen hub.
This joint effort not only promotes the Northeast as an area of influence for green investments but also as an example of progress and innovation in the global energy landscape, reaffirming Brazil’s commitment to sustainable development and international cooperation.
