During Event Held This Week in New York, Samsung Announced the Launch of the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE, Entry-Level Model of the Foldable Smartphone Line, Promising to Democratize Access to Flexible Display Technology. However, the Starting Price of US$ 900, Equivalent to About R$ 4,980, Has Generated Criticism Due to the Lack of Cost-Benefit.
The model is an intermediate version between the Z Flip 6 and the new Z Flip 7, with minor updates in the Processor and Design. Samsung is betting on the Exynos 2400, a more modern chip than the previous one, with 10 cores to deliver greater performance. Still, other specifications remain unchanged, including cameras, battery, and weight.
With an external display of 3.4 inches, a main camera of 50 MP, and a battery of 4,000 mAh, the Z Flip 7 FE repeats the configurations of the previous model. The slim design and focus on new users indicate an effort by the brand to make foldable smartphones more popular, even though the high price is still a barrier for many consumers.
New Strategy Targets Beginner Users in Flexible Screens
According to Samsung, the goal of the new version is to attract consumers who have never used a foldable, offering a more accessible model. The idea is similar to what the brand has done with large-screen and curved-glass smartphones in the past, always anticipating trends before their popularization.

This movement also occurs in response to the advancement of competing brands. Chinese manufacturers like Huawei, Oppo, and Honor have heavily invested in ultra-thin foldable models, increasing the pressure on Samsung to maintain its leadership in this niche.
Meanwhile, Apple has yet to launch anyfoldable smartphone, despite rumors persisting for years. Experts believe that 2026 may finally mark the company’s entry into the segment, which would represent a significant change in the global premium smartphone market.
Price Is Still a Barrier to Popularization of the Technology
According to consultancy IDC, only 2% of smartphones sold worldwide currently have foldable screens. However, the projection is that this number will reach 45.7 million units by 2028, which would represent a growth of 20% compared to 2023.
Despite the potential for growth, the high price is still a challenge. The Galaxy Z Flip 6, for example, was launched at US$ 1,100 and can now be found in Brazil for R$ 3,500. This raises doubts about whether it is worth investing in the FE model, which offers few improvements for a similar price.
The information was shared by the Estadão in a report published on Monday (14), with coverage conducted directly from the Samsung event in New York. Journalist Bruna Arimathea was present at the invitation of the company to attend the launch.
Expectation Is That the Price Will Drop in the Coming Months
With the arrival in the Brazilian market still without a defined date, it is expected that the price of the Z Flip 7 FE will decrease over time, as it did with previous models. Even so, its adoption on a large scale is still likely to take time, especially among consumers who prioritize cost-benefit.
In the current scenario, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE represents another attempt by Samsung to lead the foldable segment, but still faces the obstacle of high prices. The future of the line depends on the balance between accessible innovation and consumer perception of value.
