Man finds over 200 rare cars abandoned on a lot and tries to do the impossible in 8 hours with a surprise at the end.
The initial schedule points to the start of national production between late 2025 and early 2026. This timeline is considered quite optimistic. The decision reinforces the brand’s bet on the growing Brazilian pickup market.
Design and Interior: From Concept to Expected Production
The Himla concept already showcased a robust design with off-road appeal. Elements such as full LED headlights, matte gray details, and side steps are expected to be retained. The 18-inch wheels with all-terrain tires also fit the proposal.
Internally, the prototype displayed soft-touch materials and leather seats. The production version is expected to maintain a considered luxurious interior. A modern multimedia system is anticipated, possibly featuring a large screen, touted as 14 inches in some expectations. Features such as a 360º camera, wireless charger, and power-adjustable seats should be present in the more complete versions. Off-road accessories may also be offered.
Dual Powertrain: Plug-In Hybrid and Diesel Options for Brazil
The Chery Himla will offer multiple engine options. One of the bets is a plug-in hybrid setup, aligned with the growing electrification. Specific details of this system for the Himla have yet to be disclosed, but the Chery Group has technology with over 300 hp.
In addition, a version with a 2.4 turbo diesel engine is expected. This option is crucial for competing in the traditional Brazilian market. The pickup is expected to feature 4×4 traction and automatic transmission. The rear suspension with suspension springs, seen in the concept, reinforces its cargo vocation (estimated capacity of 1 ton). It is still unclear which engine will arrive first on the market.
Global Himla: Name, Strategy, and Market Adaptation
The name “HIMLA” is inspired by the reverence for mountain peaks. It symbolizes the spirit of achievement and the values of the target users. The Himla is a pillar in the global strategy of Chery for pickups, with plans for various sizes and powertrains (gasoline, diesel, electric).
Chery follows the principle that “globalization is localization”. The Himla will be adapted to different markets. This includes meeting specific demands such as off-road modifications (Middle East), cargo transport (Latin America), or electrification (Europe). The goal, according to Zhu Shaodong, vice-general manager of Chery International, is to be the first choice for family-focused customers, offering a vehicle capable of “dominating the terrain.” The global pickup market is growing, and Chery wants its share with the Himla line.
