BYD Begins Construction of New Factory in Zhengzhou with Self-Sufficient City Larger than San Francisco

With residential buildings, schools, shops, hospitals, and even soccer fields, the new BYD factory in China is attracting global attention. More than just an industrial plant, the project has become an entire city — with the infrastructure needed to house and sustain thousands of people.

And the most impressive part: this mega structure is being built in the city of Zhengzhou and will occupy an area of 129.5 km², surpassing even the famous American city of San Francisco, which covers 121.5 km². The project is already underway and promises to completely transform the way we view the automotive sector and mass production.

A Project That Goes Beyond Industry

The new factory of BYD was designed as a complete industrial ecosystem. Instead of being just a traditional industrial park, the site will feature a functional city — a space where workers can live, study, have fun, and even raise their families without needing to leave the complex.

The idea is simple yet brilliant: if the company needs thousands of employees and wants to ensure productivity, well-being, and stability, why not offer everything in one place? Thus, the concept of a factory-city is born, combining innovation, comfort, and autonomy, focusing on efficiency and sustainability.

Zhengzhou Enters the Global Map with Super Factory

The choice of Zhengzhou, in Henan province, was strategic. The city already has good logistical infrastructure and connections to the main industrial hubs of China, as well as a skilled workforce. Now, with the construction of the new factory of BYD, Zhengzhou officially enters the international radar of the automotive industry.

And what is even more impressive is the scale: the new BYD structure will be 10 times larger than Tesla’s Gigafactory in Nevada, USA. The comparison is not by chance. Since surpassing Tesla in electric vehicle sales, BYD has been showing the world that it intends to dominate the sector — and with projects of this magnitude, it is getting closer and closer to achieving that goal.

The Impact of the New Factory on BYD’s Workforce

BYD already employs around 1 million people worldwide. With the new factory-city in Zhengzhou, this number is expected to increase significantly. It is estimated that this unit alone will generate tens of thousands of new jobs, both direct and indirect.

To achieve this, the company is investing not only in production technology but also in quality of life. Complete housing, schools for employees’ children, health centers, and leisure areas are being planned to accommodate workers and their families. The proposal is for everything to be interconnected, reducing commuting and increasing efficiency in daily life.

Accelerated Growth of BYD in the Global Market

The year 2024 was significant for the Chinese automaker. Over 4.2 million electric and hybrid vehicles were sold, representing about 25% of the global market share. BYD has established itself as the largest seller of electric vehicles in the world, ahead of traditional brands like Tesla, Volkswagen, and General Motors.

This growth is not by chance. The company invests heavily in research, innovation, and primarily in long-lasting batteries — one of the biggest concerns for electric vehicle consumers. With the new factory, the expectation is that production will become even more efficient and competitive, with reduced costs and cutting-edge technology.

What to Expect from the Future with BYD’s New Factory

With this superstructure in Zhengzhou, BYD takes a further step in its global strategy. The forecast is that the factory will significantly increase the company’s annual production, expanding its capacity to meet the Chinese market and export to other countries.

Additionally, the complex will be equipped with green technologies: solar energy, water recycling, automated environmental control, and the use of sustainable materials are part of the project. The aim is for the factory-city to serve as an example of clean, sustainable production integrated with the environment — a showcase for the future of industry.

BYD is not just building another industrial unit. It is erecting a new way of thinking about production, work, and the future of cities. A project that blends innovation, ambition, and planning at a level rarely seen in the history of the automotive industry.

For those following the electric vehicle market, this is one of those historic moments. Keep an eye on BYD’s growth and closely observe the impacts this factory will bring to the entire world.
