JBS Is Making Another Investment in Rio Grande do Sul, This Time in the Installation of a New Feed Factory That Promises to Generate Hundreds of Jobs for the Residents of the Municipality of Seberi.

The JBS, the second largest food company and the largest protein producer in the world, is developing a new feed factory in the municipality of Seberi, located in Rio Grande do Sul, which is expected to generate over 900 direct jobs in the municipality. The construction, which promises to create several new jobs, was confirmed by Mayor Adilson Balestrin in an interview given to Grupo Chiru.

New JBS Factory in Rio Grande do Sul May Start Operating This Year

With this new investment, the municipality of Seberi, in Rio Grande do Sul, strengthens its position in the region by generating jobs and income for the population, according to the manager. He states that he met with the company’s directors last week to discuss the forecast for starting operations later this year. The mayor also commented on the drought.

The municipality, like others in the Production Zone region, declared a state of emergency due to water scarcity caused by the lack of rainfall. Adilson emphasizes that the losses generated in agriculture due to this factor, especially in corn, are enormous, already exceeding R$ 80 million. The mayor of the municipality notes that he hopes his request will be approved so that new lines of credit can be released to support producers in Rio Grande do Sul.

Balestrin also asserts that measures are needed to try to prevent droughts, which are becoming increasingly frequent. Strategies should be discussed through Amzop. New artesian wells have been opened in rural areas, as well as the construction of cisterns for rainwater storage.

New Factory Will Receive an Investment of R$ 1.7 Billion from JBS

In April 2021, JBS announced it would invest R$ 1.7 billion in seven factories in Rio Grande do Sul. The investments are being made from 2021 to 2023 and include the expansion and improvements in its units in seven municipalities, aimed at meeting the demands of the internal markets, both for the production of prepared foods and for the production of fresh protein, generating thousands of jobs.

The factories receiving investments are located in the municipalities of Bom Retiro do Sul, Nova Bassano, Caxias do Sul, Passo Fundo, Seberi, Santa Cruz do Sul, and Trindade do Sul. Until this year, the company has generated over 2,700 jobs in Rio Grande do Sul, where it already has 18,000 employees working in production units and farms in 25 cities. Just in 2020, the company generated over 1,700 jobs in the region.

Rio Grande do Sul Receives a Donation of R$ 24 Million from JBS

In the state, JBS operations also involve a network of 2,800 integrated producers who provide raw materials for the company and economically stimulate the regions around their units. In 2020, JBS invested R$ 270 million in the state, and the planning for the three-year period until 2023 indicated that the region would remain important for global food production.

According to the president of JBS South America and Seara, Wesley Filho, as one of the largest companies in the sector, the multinational’s investments have proven the essential role of RS as a food production hub, which supplies various parts of the world.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, JBS has donated R$ 24 million to Rio Grande do Sul, with an estimated impact benefiting over 3 million people. The donations are part of the company’s social responsibility program “Doing Good Does Good.”
