New Aluminum Factory in Uberaba, Minas Gerais

The earthworks for the area where the new aluminum can factory will be located, covering 360 square meters on the BR-050, have already begun. The Chamber of Commerce approved the area on March 23rd and issued an environmental license last week.

The mayor of Uberaba, Elisa Araújo, says that from the first contact with Crown Embalagens on January 25th up to now, 77 days have passed until the contract was signed. According to Elisa, the company symbolizes development in the difficult times of the pandemic, the generation of jobs, and income.

Elisa also states that earthworks have already started and there are still 60 days left to begin construction. According to her, the deadline is April 2022, and there is one year for this factory to produce a production line. The mayor says it is very tight, but there is a strong engineering team, and she believes they will finish ahead of schedule.

Job Creation and Economic Development

Rui Ramos, the Secretary of Economic Development, Tourism, and Innovation, expressed satisfaction with the signing of the contract and highlighted that the company has already begun the earthworks and will generate 800 direct jobs.

A Crown Embalagens is one of the most important Brazilian factories of aluminum cans for beer, soft drinks, juice, and tea, and has initiated earthworks covering 360,000 square meters on the BR-050. The project is expected to be completed in 18 months. The company will generate 800 direct jobs during construction and 140 direct jobs in factory operation, with a forecast of producing 2.4 billion cans per year.

City Hall of Uberaba Secured Various Benefits for the Company

In negotiations with Crown Embalagens, in addition to the land of 200,000 square meters, the municipality will also ensure a series of advantages. For example: Exemption from ISS (Tax on Services of Any Nature-ISSQN) during the execution of the factory project and delivery of infrastructure. However, these guarantees come from the previous government.

On the other hand, the factory is expected to generate 100 direct jobs for local labor when inaugurated. With this, the projects and competitors of Crown Embalagens will increase the demand for aluminum. Therefore, they will reach the bauxite mine. Thus, this will be good news for primary aluminum production.
