CS Wind Announces New Factory in Portugal with Investment of 300 Million Euros and Creation of 1,000 Jobs.

CS Wind, the South Korean giant and the world’s largest manufacturer of wind towers, announced a significant expansion of its operations in Portugal. The company secured the grant of two new plots of land, totaling 121,362 square meters, in the Logistics and Industrial Activities Zone (ZALI) of the Port of Aveiro. With this expansion, CS Wind plans to build a new factory, which is the fourth unit of the multinational in Portugal, creating hundreds of jobs in the country.

Expansion and Investment

The new industrial unit will be dedicated to the production of offshore wind components, including floating foundations.

According to Bruno Martins Azevedo, sales and projects director of CS Wind Portugal, the investment in the new factory is estimated to be between 200 and 300 million euros.

This project is part of the company’s strategy to meet the growing demand for wind technology and contribute to national renewable energy goals.

CS Wind already employs more than 1,200 people in Portugal, and the new factory will create around 1,000 new jobs.

The construction of the new unit is an essential part of the company’s plan to increase its production capacity and consolidate Portugal’s position as a global hub for the wind industry.

CS Wind started its operations in Portugal in 2019, with the inauguration of its first factory in the ZALI of the Port of Aveiro.

This original unit is responsible for the production of offshore wind towers and parts of fixed foundations.

In May of this year, the company inaugurated a second unit in the same area, with an investment of 120 million euros, which tripled the production capacity of the original factory.

The new factory will allow CS Wind to double the current production tonnage at the Port of Aveiro.

The company also intends to leverage its know-how in floating foundations, which were developed with the manufacture of platforms for the WindFloat Atlantic project, installed off the coast of Viana do Castelo.

Economic Impact and Future of the Factory

In addition to the direct benefits in terms of employment and production, the new factory will also have a significant economic impact on the region.

The granting of the land plots will yield approximately 2.2 million euros annually to the administration of the Port of Aveiro.

The concession contract is valid for 30 years, with the possibility of an extension of an additional 10 years.

CS Wind has a strong presence in Portugal, with an additional factory in Sever do Vouga, which produces wind towers for onshore installation.

This site has also recently received an investment of 15 million euros to expand its production capacity.

The expansion of CS Wind not only reinforces Portugal’s position as a leader in the wind energy sector but also emphasizes the company’s commitment to sustainability and technological innovation.

With the new factory, CS Wind is positioned to meet not only the needs of the domestic market but also to establish itself as a strategic supplier of wind components for the European and global markets.

This growth reflects a continuous investment in the future of renewable energy and reinforces the importance of the wind industry for the global energy transition.

The creation of 1,000 new jobs and the significant financial investment are indicative of the positive impact that CS Wind is bringing to the local economy and sustainable development in Portugal.

Multinational in Portugal

The expansion of CS Wind in Portugal highlights the country’s growing role in the renewable wind energy industry.

With the construction of the new factory and the creation of 1,000 new jobs, CS Wind reinforces its commitment to sustainable development and innovation in the energy sector.

The Port of Aveiro, with its new facilities, will consolidate as a strategic point for the production of wind components, contributing to Portugal’s leadership in renewable energy at a European and global level.
