With an Investment of R$ 22.2 Billion, Suzano Starts Operations of the Largest Pulp Line in the World at Its Factory and Creates 3,000 Jobs.
Suzano, a global leader in the production of eucalyptus-derived pulp and bioproducts, has begun operations of the world’s largest single production line for pulp, generating numerous new job opportunities in the sector. The event took place on Sunday, July 21, at 8:15 PM (Mato Grosso do Sul time), at the new factory located in Ribas do Rio Pardo, approximately 221 km from Três Lagoas.
Record Investment and Expansion of Production Capacity
The new project, named the Cerrado Project, represents a significant milestone for Suzano.
With a total investment of R$ 22.2 billion, the project includes R$ 15.9 billion allocated for the construction of the factory and R$ 6.3 billion in complementary initiatives, such as the development of the planting base and the logistical infrastructure necessary for the transportation of pulp.

From empty land to a high-end house, wooden construction uses a lightweight system, metal structure for the foundation, ventilated ceramic cladding, and special windows to create an efficient and comfortable living space throughout the year.
The new production line has the capacity to generate 2.55 million tons of pulp per year. This raises Suzano’s total capacity to 13.5 million tons annually, an increase of more than 20% compared to the company’s current production.
Additionally, Suzano will continue to produce 1.5 million tons annually of papers, which include sanitary papers, printing papers, and packaging papers.
The construction of the Ribas do Rio Pardo unit began in May 2021 and, during the peak of the construction, generated over 10,000 direct jobs.
With the inauguration of the factory and the creation of new job openings, about 3,000 people have started working in the industrial, forestry, and logistical areas.
This project is the largest investment in Suzano’s 100-year history and brings a series of operational and socio-environmental advances.
According to Beto Abreu, president of Suzano, “The successful completion of the Cerrado Project reflects the dedication and execution capacity of every person involved in this grand and transformational endeavor.”
He also highlighted the positive impact of the project both for the company and the local community.
Technological Advances at Suzano’s Factory
The new factory in Ribas do Rio Pardo features advanced technologies to minimize environmental impact.
The unit uses biomass gasification technology in the lime kilns, which reduces dependence on fossil fuels, limiting their use only to startup and production resumption moments.
Additionally, the factory will be self-sufficient in the production of sulfuric acid, hydrogen peroxide, and green energy, with a surplus of approximately 180 megawatts (MW) on average.
This renewable energy will be used to supply providers and will be exported to the National Interconnected System (SIN), enough to meet the monthly needs of a city with over 2 million inhabitants.
Local Development of the Factory and Social Responsibility
The Cerrado Project not only created thousands of jobs but also contributed to the development of local infrastructure.
Suzano invested more than R$ 300 million in improvements in the area, including the construction of housing units, a medical center, and improvements in local infrastructure.
The Urban Infrastructure Program, part of the Basic Environmental Plan (PBA), includes 21 projects in the areas of health, education, social development, housing, and public safety.
Among the key deliverables are the expansion of the Municipal Hospital and the construction of a Family Health Strategy (ESF), a Shelter House, a Civil Police Station, and an Operational Unit of the Federal Highway Police (PRF).
Additionally, Suzano has promoted social initiatives to support education, generate income, and protect rights, focusing on areas such as family agriculture, circular economy, and violence prevention.
Commitment to the Future
The Cerrado Project is part of the largest investment cycle in Suzano’s history. The company has spent over R$ 50 billion between 2019 and 2023 and plans to invest R$ 16.5 billion in 2024.
These numbers reflect the company’s commitment to the economic and social development of the regions where it operates and confidence in Brazil’s future.
Suzano continues to demonstrate its crucial role in advancing the pulp industry and promoting sustainable practices, with a positive impact on both the labor market and the local community.
