ChatGPT Update Expands Functions of AI Agent and Promises Automation of Digital Tasks in the Daily Lives of Users and Businesses. New Feature Includes Computer Control, Online Shopping, and Presentation Creation.

OpenAI announced a significant update for ChatGPT, solidifying its role as one of the most advanced artificial intelligence agents on the market.

With the introduction of the feature known as ChatGPT Agent, the system begins to perform more complex tasks on behalf of the user, from conducting online searches to creating professional presentations.

The update, presented during a live-streamed event, represents a direct response to the growing demand for automation of digital processes, both in corporate and personal environments.

ChatGPT Agent Brings Automation and Integration of Complex Tasks

The feature, known as ChatGPT Agent, is designed to facilitate everyday activities that require multiple steps, such as planning meals and purchasing ingredients online or organizing a slide presentation for business meetings.

The service integrates features already present in other products launched by the company in 2025, such as the Operator — aimed at browsing, typing, and automatic clicks on web pages — and the Deep Research, which allows ChatGPT to conduct detailed and time-consuming research on the internet.

According to information published by the British newspaper Financial Times, the new tool uses the chatbot itself as a command center.

The user can, for example, request that the system browse e-commerce sites, select products based on specific criteria, and even add items to the shopping cart.

During the official demonstration, Neel Ajjarapu, product manager at OpenAI, instructed the ChatGPT Agent to search for vintage lamps on Etsy, with a price limit and free shipping option.

The agent not only filtered the results as requested but also organized the item links into a list ready for the user’s consultation.

Tool Has Already Been Tested in Presentation Creation

Still according to Ajjarapu, the tool has already been tested in creating PowerPoint presentations, highlighting the potential to automate meeting preparation tasks.

Despite the advancement, the manager emphasized that the results generated by the AI currently serve as initial drafts, requiring human review before final use.

It is worth noting that Microsoft, the main investor in OpenAI, is also investing in similar solutions for PowerPoint and other Office suite applications.

New Feature Now Available for Pro, Plus, and Team Subscribers

The new features of the ChatGPT Agent are now available for subscribers of Pro, Plus, and Team plans, with plans to expand to corporate clients and educational institutions later this summer in the northern hemisphere.

According to OpenAI, some functionalities had already been anticipated by technology sites such as The Information.

Market Bets on AI Agents for Automation and Productivity

In the global landscape, other technology companies, including Microsoft and Anthropic, a direct competitor of OpenAI, are also investing in the development of autonomous agents.

These software are programmed to execute sequences of tasks with little or no human intervention, aiming to optimize routines and increase productivity for professionals across different sectors.

Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, recently stated that intelligent agents represent “the next big leap” in artificial intelligence.

The executive stressed that the expectation is to see these solutions saving time, streamlining workflows, and allowing people to focus efforts on more strategic activities.

However, experts point out that the performance of agents still faces challenges, such as slowness and occasional failures in executing complex commands.

Digital Security and Limitations of ChatGPT Agent

OpenAI emphasizes the need for supervision in tasks considered sensitive.

The ChatGPT Agent, for example, does not perform financial operations nor provide legal guidance.

Executing online purchases depends on prior authorization from the user, while functions such as sending emails will always require human confirmation before being sent.

Such restrictions aim to mitigate risks of misuse, recognizing that AI agents can present vulnerabilities, especially concerning data security and malicious manipulation.

In an interview during the official presentation, Kevin Weil, product director at OpenAI, admitted that the ChatGPT Agent is still far from perfect and needs continuous improvements.

“If we went back six months or a year and said this would be possible today, we would have been quite excited,” said Weil, highlighting the rapid pace of technological evolution.

Impact of AI Agents on Daily Life and the Job Market

With the advancement of so-called AI agents, the discussion about the impact of these tools on users’ routines and the job market grows.

The solutions promise to transform the way people handle digital tasks, automating everything from online shopping to complex research, including content and presentation creation.

The issue of digital security is highlighted as a priority among developers and experts.

According to OpenAI, protection mechanisms are being constantly updated to reduce risks of personal data exposure and prevent abuse.

The company also emphasizes that the ChatGPT Agent will never operate fully autonomously in critical tasks, requiring active user participation in decision-making processes.

The launch of the ChatGPT Agent occurs in a context of rapid popularization of so-called artificial intelligence agents, systems designed to take on increasingly autonomous roles in the digital realm.

Recent industry data indicates that, by 2025, the use of intelligent agents grew over 40% among technology professionals in the United States and Europe, demonstrating the market’s appetite for solutions that reduce time spent on repetitive tasks.

As OpenAI and other industry giants advance in developing these systems, experts highlight the importance of transparency, supervision, and constant updates to security protocols.

The ChatGPT Agent represents another step towards total automation of digital processes, while reinforcing the debate about the limits and possibilities of artificial intelligence in everyday life.

In this rapidly changing scenario, the question remains: to what extent would you trust an AI agent to manage important tasks in your daily life?
