Imagine a piece of land so vast that it would swallow ten entire countries within it. It seems like science fiction, right? But in the heart of Brazil, this reality materializes in a farm whose size challenges comprehension and sparks curiosity even among the most skeptical.
Although the image of such a rural property may seem like a legend, it exists and is located in São Miguel do Araguaia, in the state of Goiás. Fazenda Nova Piratininga is more than just a simple rural property.
With 135,000 hectares linked in a single registration, it contends for the title of the largest farm in Brazil. To give you an idea of its size, all 10 smallest countries in the world together would comfortably fit within its borders.
According to the Fatos Rurais channel, Fazenda Nova Piratininga was purchased in December 2010 by three Goiás entrepreneurs, including João Alves de Queiroz Filho, the controller of Grupo Hypermarcas. At the time, the value of the deal was around R$ 310 million, an amount that seems modest compared to the R$ 30 billion that the property has been valued at according to the AGFeed website.

Unemployment rises again to 5.8% at the beginning of 2026, raising alarms about the end of temporary positions and its impact on the Brazilian job market.
-
Document organization can cut invisible costs in small businesses, a simple step that prevents waste, rework, and losses in daily operations.
-
While Russia dominates the global wheat market, Brazil emerges as an unexpected competitor in the Cerrado, offering grain available in July and August when stocks in the Northern Hemisphere are at their lowest point of the year.

China returned almost 20 Brazilian ships with soybeans, but now everything could change: the country that buys 80% of the grain is considering relaxing regulations after impurities held up shipments of thousands of tons and caused million-dollar losses.
Top-Quality Livestock and Robust Infrastructure
A Fazenda Nova Piratininga stands out not only for its size. The farm is a reference in high-quality livestock, housing 105,000 Nelore cattle, known for their robustness and adaptability. The farm’s infrastructure is equally impressive, with 970 km of dirt roads, enough to travel from São Paulo to Rio de Janeiro more than twice.
According to Fatos Rurais, the property also has a water storage capacity of 10.6 million liters, distributed across 10 reservoirs, essential for maintaining the herd and daily operations.
But it’s not just the cattle that receive attention at Nova Piratininga. The farm is practically a town, with housing for 600 people, including houses, a school, a workshop, an airport, churches, and even a dental office. The presence of these social structures demonstrates the owners’ commitment to providing quality of life for employees and their families.
The Management Challenge and Plans for the Future
When the new owners took over the farm in 2010, the scenario was challenging. The herd of about 90,000 animals, of which 60,000 were breeding females, showed a low birth and weaning rate, far below national standards.
According to Fatos Rurais, Nova Piratininga formed a partnership with Fazenda Barreiro Grande, owned by renowned breeder Adir do Carmo Leonel, to improve the genetic quality of the herd. The project aims to achieve 100,000 annual births through artificial insemination, raising the standard of the animals produced on the farm.
The farm’s management also underwent a profound transformation. Igor Nogueira Alves de Melo, one of the partners and the property manager, brought his expertise and training to implement a governance plan that covers everything from herd management to improving working conditions.
According to the Fatos Rurais channel, 250 feeding trough houses and 20 resting spots for cowhands were built, with the goal of doubling the herd and further improving the existing infrastructure.
Competition and Controversies: The Battle for the Title of Largest Farm
Although Nova Piratininga is a strong contender for the title of largest farm in Brazil, it faces stiff competition. Fazenda Roncador, located in Mato Grosso and spanning 152,000 hectares, is often cited as the largest.
However, there are controversies regarding the registration of the property as a single registration, which is one of the criteria for classification. According to Fatos Rurais, Fazenda Roncador belongs to the Penido family and has nearly 50 years of history, while Nova Piratininga, with its 14 years, has already achieved a level of efficiency and productivity that places it in the race for the top.
The Future of Nova Piratininga: Expansion or Sale?
The grandeur of Nova Piratininga has not gone unnoticed by the market. In recent years, investment funds have expressed interest in acquiring the farm, attracted by its growth potential.
However, the farm’s managers assure that the property is not for sale. The owners’ focus is to continue investing in sustainable livestock practices and to make the business profitable in the coming years. According to Fatos Rurais, the partners meet regularly to discuss the progress of operations and outline strategies for the future.
