The New JAC Hunter Pickup Is Expected to Hit the Market in 2024, Ready to Compete with Models Like Hilux and Ranger. The Model Has a Payload Capacity of Up to 1,400 kg and Can Offer Up to 170 Horsepower.
The SHC group, official importer of JAC Motors in Brazil, is preparing to launch a new diesel pickup in early 2024, which promises to compete with market giants like Hilux and Ranger. Known in other markets as Hunter T9, Hunter, or simply T9, this JAC pickup represents a significant step for the brand in the segment. The launch of the model was confirmed by Sergio Habib, the company’s president, during a interview with the channel A Roda.
New Diesel Pickup from JAC Will Have a Payload Capacity of 1,400 kg
According to the president, the JAC Hunter pickup will be sold in electric and diesel configurations. The company will launch an electric pickup and, now, will also launch a diesel pickup. According to Habib, the launch is part of a new strategy for the company to return to leveraging the network in the interior of the country. The executive emphasizes that he was forced to launch a diesel pickup, as this was not his desire. In Habib’s view, only a diesel pickup would have a chance to surpass sales of the Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger, and others.
The electric configuration will focus more on companies in large urban centers that want a clean and economical cargo vehicle for transporting goods within the city. For the executive, pointing to the first half of 2024, this JAC Hunter pickup is the largest in the market. It will have an excellent warranty and has the highest payload capacity: 1,400 kg.

The rival to the Hilux and Ranger will be positioned in the mid-size pickup segment and will be launched in a few months. It has not yet been confirmed whether the diesel and battery pickup will be sold in Brazil as Hunter, T9, or if it will adopt another unique name. Recently, the media spotted a prototype of the truck parked on a street in Taboão da Serra (SP), with little camouflage.
JAC Hunter Pickup Delivers 170 Horsepower
The rival to the Hilux and Ranger represents a deep update of the Shuailing T8, which is currently offered in Brazil as iEV-330P. Thus, in practice, its electric configuration will be a direct replacement for its predecessor. The diesel version will arrive as a range complement and will mark a return of JAC to internal combustion engines in Brazil. It is worth noting that JAC was the first vehicle brand operating in Brazil to offer a completely electric product range.
Now, it will take a step back, which helps justify Habib’s statement that he did not want to launch a diesel model. In this configuration, the Hunter T9 features a 2.0-liter four-cylinder 16V turbo diesel engine with 170 horsepower and 41.8 kgfm of torque. The transmission is an eight-speed automatic, with 4×4 traction equipped with low range and locking rear differential. The towing capacity (with brake) is 3,500 kg.
Pickup Range Reaches 226 km in Electric Version
The electric variant features the same powertrain as the IEV330P currently sold. It produces 204 horsepower and 30.1 kgfm of torque, with 4×2 rear traction. However, the LFP battery pack, supplied by CATL, will see an increase in capacity from 65.3 kWh to 77 kWh. Thus, the range in Inmetro should exceed the current 226 km.
The SHC group is expected to bring the diesel pickup in the extended double cab specification. In terms of dimensions, it measures 5,620 mm in length, 3,400 mm in wheelbase, 1,965 mm in width, and 1,920 mm in height. The interior includes a 10.4-inch multimedia center, a wireless phone charger, a 7-inch digital instrument panel, and much more.
