Ram’s Mid-Size Pickup Begins To Be Revealed With Production In Argentina, 200 HP Turbo Diesel Engine, And Eight-Speed Automatic Transmission Targeting Rivals Such As Hilux, Ranger, And S10 In Its South American Debut In 2026.

Stellantis has released the first images of the Ram Dakota production, which is set to be manufactured in Argentina and will have its commercial debut in South America in early 2026.

The model revives the classic name of the brand to compete in the mid-size pickup segment dominated by Toyota Hilux and Ford Ranger, among other competitors.

The mechanical base is shared with the Fiat Titano, including the 200 HP 2.2 turbo diesel engine and an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission.

First Images And Launch Schedule

The public presentation of the line was based on the Nightfall concept, showcased in August, which previewed design elements and confirmed Ram’s focus on the South American market.

Since then, the brand has released teasers of the final configuration, reinforcing the production plan in Córdoba and the launch window for early 2026 in the region’s main countries.

Platform: Ram Layer Over Titano’s Engineering

The Dakota is built on the same ladder frame chassis as the Fiat Titano, a project that derives from the Changan Hunter pickup.

This shared engineering reduces costs and shortens timelines, but Ram has applied its own identity to the body and cabin to distance the product within Stellantis and position it above Fiat in brand perception.

Specialized publications have also detailed that the Dakota retains the body-on-frame architecture, vital for cargo, towing, and heavy-duty use.

Design: Exclusive Grille And LED Light Signature

While the Titano emphasizes simple lines, the Dakota adopts a more robust look, featuring a front grille in the style of the Ram family and a LED strip connecting the narrower headlights.

Bumpers, hood, and fender cuts also follow the brand’s language.

These traits were already clear in the Nightfall concept and remain in the pre-production materials released by the manufacturer.

Cabin: High-End Finish And High-Definition Screens

Inside, the proposal aims for a more sophisticated environment than the Titano.

Interior projections show a digital instrument cluster, dedicated multimedia center, and redesigned console, combining pickup ergonomics with recent connectivity features.

The goal is to elevate the Dakota above traditional competitors with comfort and technology solutions without abandoning its work-oriented character.

Powertrain: 2.2 Turbo Diesel, ZF 8HP50, And Full-Time 4×4

The mechanical set replicates the recipe applied to the Titano 2026.

The 2.2 Multijet II turbo diesel delivers 200 HP and 45.9 kgfm, working with the ZF 8HP50 automatic transmission with eight speeds.

The 4×4 drive utilizes a BorgWarner transfer case that distributes torque between the axles and allows for on-demand all-wheel drive.

In the Titano range, the package includes a rear differential lock and downhill assist; as Ram will share the set, the expectation is for equivalent features, although the brand has not detailed items for each version.

Equipment And Positioning

The Dakota will seek to balance off-road capability and daily driving comfort.

In addition to the powertrain, the materials already displayed by Ram indicate suspension calibrations and isolation improvements that bring the pickup closer to the refinement standard observed in other models of the brand.

Even preserving the structural and mechanical base of the Titano, the Dakota will feature its own finishes and content to reach the audience that currently shifts to Hilux, Ranger, and S10.

Market: New Rivals Strengthen The Competition

The Brazilian mid-size pickup market gained momentum in the second half of the year with the arrival of two Chinese entrants.

The GWM Poer P30 began sales on September 10, with a 2.4 turbo diesel engine delivering 184 HP, a 9-speed automatic transmission, and promotional prices between R$ 220 thousand and R$ 240 thousand at launch.

GWM itself confirms that local production is planned for 2025.

The offensive increases pressure on the leaders and broadens the range of options in the segment.

In the same move, Foton started selling the Tunland V7 and V9 in the country, both with a 48V mild-hybrid system and 8-speed ZF automatic transmission, in addition to generous dimensions and a focus on robustness.

Specialized publications highlight prices starting at R$ 289,990 and a competitive equipment package, which helps explain Ram’s decision to position the Dakota with superior content and finishing compared to the Titano to maintain margin and image.

Direct Competition And Value Proposition

Upon debut, the Dakota will target customers who currently consider Hilux, Ranger, S10, Amarok, Frontier, and L200.

The strategy involves offering the 200 HP engine with fuller responses at low RPM, the smoothness of the ZF transmission, the security of a full-time all-wheel drive with automatic torque management, and a finishing and technology package consistent with the Ram signature.

In practice, Stellantis extends its coverage of the segment with two interpretations of the same project: the Titano, with cost-benefit appeal, and the Dakota, emphasizing refinement and brand image.

Production And Distribution

Manufacturing in Córdoba (AR) solidifies Stellantis’s pickup “hub” in the Southern Cone, facilitates supply to the main markets, and reduces logistics times.

The decision also creates industrial synergies with the Titano itself, allowing Ram to scale volume according to demand in Brazil and neighboring countries.

For the consumer, Argentine origin tends to accelerate deliveries and standardize technical updates throughout the life cycle.

In light of this package, the question becomes less “if” and more “how” the Dakota will shake up the top of the category: for you, what matters most when choosing a mid-size pickup today — off-road robustness, comfort and technology, or total cost of ownership?
