The Save On Energy Thermal Power Plant is the Second Largest Private Investment in the History of Ceará. The Plant Will Have the Capacity to Provide Energy and Gas for the Entire State, in Addition to the Potential for Sale to Neighboring States
The newest thermal power plant in the Pecém Port Complex, from Save On Energy, will provide 3,000 new jobs, as declared by the Governor of the State of Ceará, Camilo Santana (PT). In the operation of the new thermal power plant, there will be 800 direct and indirect jobs. After a meeting held between the government and executives from the American company Ceiba, part of the Portocém consortium, Governor Camilo Santana confirmed that this plant is the second largest private investment in the history of the State of Ceará.

The new thermal power plant will operate using natural gas, with a total investment of R$ 4.2 billion. The plant will have the capacity to produce up to 1.6 GW of energy, making it the largest project of its kind in South America. It is important to note that the Portocém consortium was the winner of Brazil’s energy auction to install the equipment.
Last week, the first Brazilian auction for the contracting of power and energy capacity reserves for thermal power plants took place. In the auction, with this thermal power project alone, the State of Ceará accounted for 70% (R$ 4.225 billion) of the total investment of R$ 5.9 billion.

According to Santana, the new thermal power plant that is operating has the capacity to provide energy and gas for the entire State of Ceará, in addition to having the potential for sale to neighboring states.
The Secretary of Economic Development and Labor of Ceará, Maia Jr, also highlighted that the installation of the thermal power plant opens the door for the installation of a gas terminal independent of Petrobras in the Pecém Complex.
About the Port of Pecém
The Port of Pecém is a port terminal on the northeastern coast of Brazil, an offshore style, located in a geographical accident known as “Ponta do Pecém”. The location where the port terminal construction took place is in the district of Pecém, in the municipality of São Gonçalo do Amarante, which is situated on the western coastline of the State of Ceará, within the Metropolitan Region of Fortaleza.
