In Total, There Will Be 5 Solar Power Plants Located in the Interior of Ceará State, in the Municipality of Abaiara
The city of Abaiara, in the Cariri region, will be the center of new investment in electricity production from sunlight. A total of R$ 728.6 million will be invested in the construction of the photovoltaic complex with five solar power generation parks. The total power generation capacity is estimated to exceed 163 megawatts (MW). It is expected that the construction of the enterprise will create 2,800 new jobs in the state of Ceará. Job Creation
The majority of job positions will be generated during the construction phase of the five solar parks. It is estimated that 800 direct jobs and another 2,000 indirect jobs will be created during the project’s implementation phase.
Once it is operational, employment from the investment declines, and it is projected that 10 workers will be allocated to direct jobs and another 30 to indirect jobs for the maintenance of the solar parks in the state of Ceará.

More Details about the Solar Power Complex
The enterprise will consist of four similar solar plants called Lightsource Milagres I, II, III, IV with similar sizes and power generation capacity. The estimated investment for each park’s implementation is R$ 145.2 million.
Of the total amount spent on each solar power park, R$ 77.8 million will be financed by the Northeast Development Fund (FDNE), and the remaining amount by the private sector. The last plant to be installed, Lightsource Milagres Geração de Energia Ltda, will be the largest in the solar complex with an estimated investment of R$ 201.7 million, with R$ 111.7 million funded by FNDE financing. The fund managed by the Superintendence of Northeast Development (Sudene) will be responsible for financing R$ 422.9 million of the total to be applied in the Abaiara solar complex. The first release of funds for the construction of the enterprise will occur later this year, according to Sudene.
Utilization of Renewable Sources
In addition to the massive generation of job positions during implementation, the construction of the solar complex interlinks with the strengthening of the renewable energy hub in Ceará. Furthermore, it intensifies the energy sales prospects for green hydrogen projects being implemented in the state.
The project will also provide “income generation through the leasing of land where it will be implemented,” as highlighted by the General Coordination of Development and Financing Funds of Sudene. Solar energy enterprises have been supported by Sudene in an attempt to alleviate the energy crisis faced by Brazil. In 2020, according to Sudene’s balance sheet, around R$ 8 billion was released in financing for renewable energy projects throughout the Northeast region.

The company Solar Newen Bahia Energia signed a protocol of intentions with the Secretariat of Economic Development (SDE) for the construction of a new photovoltaic plant intended for solar energy generation in the Municipality of Barreira. For the execution of the project, the company estimates an investment of R$ 1.080 billion. The enterprise will hire 990 workers for its construction and create 135 jobs in the operational phase.
The Secretary of Economic Development, Nelson Leal, stated that in July of this year, the Electric Energy Trading Chamber registered that Bahia ranked second among the states generating solar energy in the country. And this protocol they signed is an indication that the sector is only expected to grow in the state, he adds. According to the BahiadeValor website, solar energy projects in Bahia have already generated 13,000 direct jobs during the construction of those already in operation, and the SDE estimates that another 47,400 direct jobs will be created during the construction phase for the parks that are under construction or will soon be initiated.
