New Hyundai HB20 2027 Arrives Soon With a Revamped Look, More Interior Space, and Enhanced Technology, Promising to Shake Up the Compact Hatch Segment in Brazil. Find Out What Changes Are Expected to Impact the National Market.

Hyundai is preparing to launch the new generation of the Hyundai HB20 in the Brazilian market, expected to arrive in 2026 as the 2027 line.

The hatchback, which currently ranks third among the best-selling compact hatches in Brazil, has been developed to increase its market share in the segment and, especially, to compete for leadership with Fiat Argo and Volkswagen Polo, models that currently dominate the market.

The new Hyundai HB20 2027 promises significant advances in several aspects, especially in interior space, one of the main demands from consumers.

According to insider information and projections from the automotive sector, the model is expected to have larger dimensions than the current generation, aiming to stand out as a benchmark in the compact hatch segment.

More Interior Space in the New Generation Hyundai HB20

Among the anticipated updates is an increase in the length, width, and wheelbase of the new Hyundai HB20.

Currently, the model has a length of 4,015 mm, a width of 1,720 mm, a height of 1,470 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,530 mm, along with a trunk capacity of 300 liters.

The industry’s expectation is that, with the growth in dimensions, the trunk could reach at least 320 liters, surpassing even the main direct rivals, Fiat Argo and Volkswagen Polo, which are currently benchmarks for space in the category.

Design Inspired by the International Hyundai i20

Images of camouflaged prototypes have been circulating on automotive websites, indicating that the new HB20 will have a design inspired by the Hyundai i20, a hatch sold in South Korea.

The revamped design is expected to feature more modern lines, sharper headlights, and a visual proposal aligned with the new global identity of the South Korean brand.

The goal is to offer a more attractive and updated product for Brazilian consumers, betting on a sporty and sophisticated look to compete on equal footing with the main rivals in the segment.

Enhanced Interior and New Technologies

Another bet from Hyundai for the new HB20 2027 is on the evolution of the interior.

The manufacturer is expected to invest in higher quality materials and embedded technology, including the anticipated panoramic screen in the dashboard, which will integrate the instrument cluster with the infotainment system.

The increase in interior space aims to meet the needs of consumers looking for more comfort, especially in the rear seat and trunk, points often cited as challenges in the current generation.

Turbo Engine Remains One of the Highlights

Regarding the engines, Hyundai intends to maintain the current range of engines, considered efficient and competitive for the segment.

The Hyundai HB20 will continue to be equipped with a 1.0 flex naturally aspirated three-cylinder engine, paired with a five-speed manual transmission, and a 1.0 flex turbo, also three-cylinder, with a six-speed automatic transmission.

Technical data indicate that, in the aspirated version, power reaches up to 80 horsepower, and maximum torque is 10.2 kgfm, available from 4,500 revolutions per minute (rpm).

Regarding fuel consumption, the model achieves 9.9 km/l with ethanol in the city and 13.3 km/l with gasoline, according to the Brazilian Vehicle Labeling Program from the National Institute of Metrology, Quality, and Technology (Inmetro).

In the turbo version, performance increases to up to 120 horsepower and torque of 17.5 kgfm, available at just 1,500 rpm, providing a more agile driving experience.

According to official measurements, consumption stands at 9.2 km/l with ethanol and 13.2 km/l with gasoline in urban use, while on highways it reaches 10.2 km/l and 14.2 km/l, respectively.

Changes in the Hyundai Line and Market Strategy

The arrival of the new generation of the Hyundai HB20 in 2026 brings an important change for the brand’s lineup in Brazil.

Unlike the hatch, the sedan version, known as the Hyundai HB20S, is expected to be discontinued, making way for a new compact SUV positioned below the Hyundai Creta.

This strategy aims to align the brand’s portfolio with the growing consumer preference for compact SUVs and vehicles with greater versatility.

Sales Performance and Competition with Fiat Argo and VW Polo

The performance of the Hyundai HB20 in the Brazilian market reinforces the importance of the new generation.

Between January and May 2025, 29,958 units of the model were registered, a significant increase compared to the same period the previous year.

In May, sales jumped to 8,674 vehicles, a more than 25% increase compared to the previous month.

Fiat Argo and Volkswagen Polo, meanwhile, continue to lead the segment, with 37,234 and 45,725 units sold, respectively, in the same timeframe.

The numbers indicate a competitive landscape and suggest that the Hyundai HB20, with the anticipated innovations, could secure an even more prominent position in the compact hatch category.

Special Offers on the Current Line and Expectations for the Launch

While the new generation of the Hyundai HB20 has not yet reached dealerships, the current versions are being offered with substantial discounts.

The 1.0 Comfort Plus 2025/2026 version, for example, was recently announced for R$ 85,990 in promotional campaigns, nearly R$ 10,000 below the original price.

The top-of-the-line Limited 2025/2026 version, initially priced at R$ 119,990, has reached the market for R$ 89,990 in some campaigns, offering a significant difference to consumers.

Despite the incentives, expectations for the Hyundai HB20 2027 are growing due to the innovative features and the brand’s repositioning in the segment.

The new generation promises to deliver more space, technology, and a refreshed look, characteristics that are likely to attract an even broader and more demanding audience.

Hyundai HB20 2027: Could It Change the Landscape of Compact Hatches?

In this context, the new Hyundai HB20 2027 emerges as a strong candidate to dethrone Fiat Argo and Volkswagen Polo from the leadership of compact hatches in Brazil.

The increase in interior space, the updated design, and the retention of efficient turbo engines are strategic points for Hyundai to solidify the model as a segment benchmark.

It remains to be seen whether Brazilian consumers will choose to wait for the arrival of the new generation or take advantage of the discounts on the current versions.

Do you believe that the new Hyundai HB20 2027 has the potential to take the lead in compact hatches in the country, surpassing Fiat Argo and Volkswagen Polo?
