Brazilian Army Acquires Armored Vehicles, and Over 400 Units Are Expected to Be Delivered in the Next 10 Years. Check Out the Details of the Army’s Unique Partnership with IDV (A Company of the Iveco Group).

The Brazilian Army has taken a significant step in modernizing its forces. With the signing of a historic contract with IDV, 420 4×4 LMV-BR 2 armored vehicles will be supplied over the next 10 years. This billion-dollar investment will not only strengthen national defense but also boost the strategic development of the Armed Forces, consolidating Brazil’s position as an emerging military power. Additionally, the initiative promises to generate jobs and foster the national defense industry, contributing to the country’s economy.

Armored Vehicles Acquired by the Brazilian Army

The Brazilian Army has signed a significant contract with IDV for the supply of 420 LMV-BR 2 armored vehicles. This agreement, made by the Brazilian Army’s Directorate of Manufacturing, provides for the delivery of these units over 10 years.

The armored vehicles, commonly known as “Guaicurus,” will be produced in two distinct versions: one with a Manual Weapon System and another with a RCWS (Remote Controlled Weapon System).

Each unit will be equipped with a Command and Control System – C2. The production will be done locally at IDV’s factory in Sete Lagoas (MG), contributing to the local economy. The signing of this contract for investment in the production of the LMV-BR 2 vehicles marks another essential step in the collaboration between the Brazilian Army and IDV.

This agreement significantly contributes to strengthening the National Defense Industrial Base and the strategic development of the Brazilian Ground Forces.

The strong relationship between the Brazilian Army and IDV has a long history, which includes the delivery of over 700 units of the Guarani 6×6 Amphibious Armored Vehicle and 32 units of the LMV-BR Multi-Role Armored Vehicle to date.

Armored Vehicles Have Been Enhanced for Decades

Since their launch, the 4×4 LMVs have been continuously improved, leveraging the vast experience accumulated by their operators. Due to this ongoing focus on enhancement, over the past 20 years, IDV has developed a deep knowledge of military vehicles to meet the most stringent operational requirements of its clients.

IDV, a company of the Iveco Group (EXM: IVG), specializes in providing innovative vehicle and protection solutions to meet the needs of military clients worldwide.

The company produces tactical logistics trucks, multi-role vehicles, and armored vehicles, as well as selling the entire range of IVECO trucks, tailored as necessary to meet military customer requirements. In this way, IDV offers a complete line for an extensive range of defense applications.

The Brazilian Army purchases armored vehicles that weigh 8.1 tons, have a FPT FC1C turbo-diesel engine with 220 hp and 50.9 mkgf of torque. The transmission is an eight-speed automatic provided by ZF, there is 4×4 traction, and three differential locks. However, for security reasons, neither the Brazilian Army nor Iveco discloses further details of the new LMV2.

Brazilian Army Also Focuses on Aerial Defense

In addition to this investment, the Brazilian Army seeks to increase its response force and has announced that it will soon incorporate autonomous drones equipped with missiles. Of the Nauru 1000C type, the aircraft were developed by the Brazilian company XMobots and have been at the 2nd Army Aviation Battalion (BAvEX) in Taubaté since December 2022.

It took 9 months of testing for a group of 21 million to complete the operational training of the devices.

The new drones will be the first of their kind under the command of the Brazilian Army, as until now, the equipment was only equipped with cameras and other reconnaissance systems. The goal is for the devices to assist in border operations, as well as in urban and conventional environments, acting as an additional force in defense of the country.
