Train Rio-Minas Promises to Enchant Tourists with Its Historical Stops and Breathtaking Views. A Train Journey That Will Transform the History of Railway Tourism in the Country. Don’t Miss This Opportunity to Explore Brazil in a Unique Way!

Gradually, Brazil has become a point of attraction for train travel enthusiasts.

But a new route, which will pass through two Brazilian states, promises to be different from anything seen here before. Imagine traveling along a historic railway while contemplating mountains, rivers, and waterfalls.

This is just the beginning of the experience that the Train Rio-Minas offers, connecting the cities of Três Rios (RJ) to Sapucaia (RJ), with a little piece of Minas Gerais along the way.

The train will be more than just a simple journey; it aims to be a true historical and cultural immersion, utilizing a renewed infrastructure to ensure comfort and accessibility.

And the best part? The ride promises to be worthy of being at the top of the list of the most sought-after routes in the country.

The Route of the Train and Its Innovative Tourist Proposal

With an initial route of 36 kilometers, the tourist train will depart from Três Rios, in the state of Rio de Janeiro, and continue to Sapucaia, also crossing the town of Chiador, in Minas Gerais.

According to the newspaper Estadão, operations are expected to begin by the end of June this year, bringing a new source of tourism and economic development to the region.

The journey will be an enriching experience, both for locals and visitors, who will have access to stunning natural landscapes preserved by the region’s railway history.

According to Cyntia Nascimento, president of the Oscip Movimento Nacional Amigos do Trem, the project not only values the cultural heritage of the railway but also has great potential to boost tourism and the economy of the involved cities.

“This is an innovative project that will undoubtedly positively impact the local economy, promoting sustainable development and the preservation of our natural and cultural wealth,” Cyntia stated.

The Partnership That Made the Project Viable

The partnership for the operation of the Train Rio-Minas involves the logistics company VLI, which will be responsible for operating the railways, and Oscip Movimento Nacional Amigos do Trem, which will manage the tourist route.

Additionally, the National Land Transport Agency (ANTT) is closely monitoring the project’s implementation.

To make this dream a reality, VLI invested approximately R$ 40 million in the recovery of the railway line and the necessary infrastructure for the train’s operation.

The company provided four locomotives, a rail workshop, and several maneuvering yards to Oscip Amigos do Trem, ensuring operations with the highest quality and safety.

Train Composition: Comfort and Accessibility

The new train will not only be a means of transport but a true quality tourism experience.

The Train Rio-Minas will feature dining cars, kitchen, and event space, providing passengers comfort, accessibility, and a unique experience throughout the journey.

The initial capacity of the train will accommodate approximately one thousand passengers per trip, with the possibility of expansion depending on demand and the project’s success.

The Project Details: A Historical and Cultural Journey

One of the most fascinating characteristics of this new tourist train will be the historical experience provided by the train stations along the route.

The original project, launched in 2016, envisioned an itinerary of 168 kilometers, but the current version will focus on shorter stretches, allowing tourists the chance to experience the history of Brazilian railway transportation.

In addition to historical stations such as those in Três Rios, Chiador, and Sapucaia, dating back to the 19th century, the train will also pass through areas surrounded by mountains and rivers, turning every kilometer into an adventure.

The route also represents an excellent opportunity for ecotourism, with trails and activities such as rafting on the Paraibuna River.

The Impact on Tourism and Economy of the Region

With the growing demand for tourist train travel in Brazil, the Train Rio-Minas adds another option for those looking for something different.

According to estimates, the new train will help consolidate Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais as railway tourism destinations, further encouraging the development of small and medium-sized cities.

The Historical Beauty of Três Rios and the Attractions Along the Route

Três Rios, one of the main cities in the state of Rio de Janeiro, has a strong connection with ecotourism and historical railway heritage.

The town is famous for the Estação União Indústria, inaugurated by Emperor D. Pedro II, and the Ponte das Garças, which also has significant historical relevance.

Other attractions in the city include the Casa de Pedra, a historic property, and the Caminho Velho da Estrada Real, which dates back to the 18th century.

The town of Chiador, with just over 2,000 inhabitants, preserves relics such as the rail station of Penha Longa, dating from 1887.

In Sapucaia, tourists can be enchanted by the beauty of the station also inaugurated by D. Pedro II, which marks the end of the route and the beginning of new adventures in the city’s resort, surrounded by trails and waterfalls.

Tourist Train in Brazil: A New Model of Railway Tourism

The project for the Train Rio-Minas joins a select group of tourist trains in Brazil, operating in seven states across the country.

According to the Brazilian Association of Tourist and Cultural Train Operators, tourist lines in Brazil already transport more than 3 million passengers per year, highlighting historical trains and steam trains, such as the Corcovado Train in Rio de Janeiro and the Mantiqueira Train in Minas Gerais.

Will the Train Rio-Minas become the new most sought-after tourist attraction in Brazil? What do you think of the idea of transforming train journeys into a historical and cultural experience? Share your opinion in the comments!
