Drivers traveling on these federal highways should be alert! Starting February 27, 24 new radars will begin operating. The speed limits vary between 60 km/h and 80 km/h. Find out where they are located and how to avoid violations!
Driving on the highways of Paraná will require even more attention from drivers starting on February 27.
This is because a new set of radars will start operating on the federal roads of the state, monitoring vehicle speeds and automatically applying fines for those who disregard the established limits.
This measure is part of the concession contract signed between the Federal Government and Via Araucária, responsible for the management of 473 kilometers of highways that cross the state.

The new equipment has been installed at strategic points after a technical study conducted by the Federal Highway Police (PRF), taking into account factors such as accident rates, traffic volume, and proximity to urban areas.
Where Are the New Radars?
The 24 new radars are distributed along stretches of BRs 277, 373, and 476, covering cities such as Curitiba, Campo Largo, Araucária, Lapa, Irati, Prudentópolis, and Teixeira Soares.
The speed limits range from 60 km/h to 80 km/h, depending on the region and road conditions.
Via Araucária emphasizes that these radars were strategically installed based on technical criteria.
According to the concessionaire, the choice of locations took into account the high accident rates recorded in recent years, especially in stretches where there is a heavy circulation of large vehicles.
BR-277, for example, is one of the busiest highways in the state and has a concerning history of collisions involving trucks and passenger vehicles.
According to Via Araucária, the installation of these devices was already planned since October 2024, but until then, the radars only operated for educational purposes.
Now, with the definitive activation, drivers will need to double their attention to avoid penalties.
Check out the main stretches with new radars:
- BR-277 (Curitiba – Ponta Grossa – Guarapuava): speed limit of 60 km/h to 80 km/h, depending on the stretch
- BR-373 (Imbituva – Prudentópolis): speed limit of 60 km/h to 80 km/h
- BR-476 (Araucária – Lapa): speed limit of 60 km/h to 80 km/h
Impact on Drivers
The inclusion of the new radars divides opinions among drivers.
While some argue that the measure is a way to increase safety on the roads and reduce accidents, others criticize the action, claiming that the radars are used as an “industry of fines.”
Drivers who use these highways daily are already showing concern about the new enforcement.
Many claim that the speed limits on certain stretches are too low for the road conditions, which could generate a large number of fines in a short time.
However, traffic experts argue that the presence of radars contributes to speed reduction and, consequently, decreases the severity of accidents.
The concessionaire, for its part, states that the main objective is to ensure better control over speed limits and reduce the number of collisions on the highways under its management.
The concession contract provides for a total investment of R$ 13.1 billion for improvements in road infrastructure, including pavement restoration, expansion of the road network, and implementation of new traffic control technologies.
How to Avoid Fines?
To avoid problems and maintain safe driving, drivers should pay attention to road signage, respect speed limits, and exercise extra caution when passing through stretches with active radars.
In addition, it is important to keep the vehicle’s maintenance up to date, ensuring that the braking and tire systems are in good condition to avoid infractions and potential accidents.
Experts warn that, in addition to electronic enforcement, drivers need to adopt safer habits behind the wheel.
Avoiding dangerous overtaking, keeping a safe distance from the vehicle in front, and respecting speed limits are fundamental actions for safer traffic.
Electronic enforcement has become one of the main forms of speed control in Brazil.
According to data from the PRF, speeding continues to be one of the main causes of serious accidents on federal highways.
The recommendation from authorities is that drivers drive carefully and respect traffic rules to ensure a safer journey for everyone.
Penalties for Exceeding the Speed Limit
According to the Brazilian Traffic Code (CTB), exceeding the established limits can result in fines of varying amounts, depending on the recorded speed:
- Up to 20% above the allowed limit: medium violation, fine of R$ 130.16 and 4 points on the driver’s license
- Between 20% and 50% above the allowed limit: severe violation, fine of R$ 195.23 and 5 points on the driver’s license
- More than 50% above the allowed limit: very severe violation, fine of R$ 880.41, loss of 7 points on the driver’s license, and suspension of driving rights
Via Araucária clarifies that drivers can check fines and notifications through the concessionaire’s website or through the contact channels of the National Department of Transport Infrastructure (DNIT).
If the driver disagrees with the infraction, they have the right to file an appeal within the deadlines established by traffic authorities.
New Investments and Intensified Enforcement
The contract signed with Via Araucária also includes other actions for improving road safety, such as the installation of new pedestrian overpasses, reinforcement of signage, and lighting of critical areas.
In addition, there will be an increase in the number of highway patrols, ensuring more efficient monitoring of the roads.
Another planned change is the installation of informational electronic panels along the highways, which will alert drivers about traffic conditions, changes in speed limits, and temporary closures.
These initiatives are part of a larger investment package aimed at making federal roads safer for users.
According to data from the Ministry of Transport, road concessions are responsible for a significant reduction in accident rates compared to stretches managed directly by the government.
This is primarily due to increased investment in technology and infrastructure, which includes not only radars but also user service and monitoring via security cameras.
Now, with the radars operating at full capacity, drivers who usually travel the highways of Paraná need to stay alert to avoid surprises with fines.
The rule is clear: respecting the established limits and ensuring safe driving is the best way to avoid penalties and, most importantly, prevent accidents.
