The Project Promises To Make A Significant Contribution To The Brazilian Navy Fleet In The Defense Of Brazil Over The Coming Years. The President Of Nuclep Highlighted Advancements In Recent Months On The Construction Project For The Nuclear Propulsion Submarine.

The state-owned company Nuclep continues to focus all its efforts on the development of the project to construct the first nuclear propulsion submarine this Monday, (01/23). The company recently announced the main advancements made by the project team. Operations for the construction of the Qualification Section of the submarine are being developed. In addition, a full-size prototype of the submarine is already under development by a team from the organization.

Construction Project For The First Nuclear Propulsion Submarine By Nuclep Promises Great Results For The Nuclear Sector And National Defense

One of the major projects currently under development for the coming years in the Brazilian naval sector is its first nuclear propulsion submarine.

The country will need to make considerable progress and face some challenges by the end of the project, but the expectation is that the construction of the submarine will bring strong contributions to the Brazilian Navy fleet.

Additionally, the development of this project will bring a significant technological leap for the country, with a great legacy of learning and human capital development.

As it is a wholly Brazilian project, led by Nuclep, this enterprise strengthens the Brazilian naval industry.

Nonetheless, the naval sector will need significant efforts and investments in research to bring the project to fruition.

Nuclep is essential for the realization of the nuclear propulsion submarine, as it is the only company with the capability and qualifications to produce nuclear equipment.

In command of the company since 2017, Rear Admiral Carlos Henrique Seixas is leading the construction project and highlights some recent advancements made in the initiative.

“Nuclep is a heavy boiler company, and it is the only company in the country capable of building a nuclear submarine. Both the hull of the submarine and other equipment — such as the reactor vessel and heat exchangers, for example — will be national developments,” he stated.

The company is currently developing the works of the Nuclear Electric Power Generation Laboratory (LABGENE), a full-size prototype of the nuclear propulsion submarine.

The construction of Block 40 is also underway while the Nuclep team prepares to begin the works of the Qualification Section of the submarine.

France’s Partnership With Brazil In Technology Transfer Will Be Essential For The Development Of The Nuclear Propulsion Submarine Project

Rear Admiral Carlos Henrique Seixas highlighted the partnership between France and Brazil as essential for the development of the project.

The country transferred to Brazil the qualifications in engineering for the construction of submarine hulls. Thus, it was a strong contributor to the creation of the nuclear propulsion system of the ongoing submarine.

“Nuclep sent employees to France, where they underwent qualification programs for the development of conventional submarines’ Scorpène class hulls. Now, when we talk about the Nuclear Propulsion Submarine, it is important to remember that this is a national development,” the commander reinforced.

The proposal for a national development project, which will contribute to the advancement of the Brazilian naval industry, is one of the major highlights of Nuclep’s project.

The company emphasizes its work in the ongoing construction of some equipment that will make up LABGENE and the nuclear propulsion submarine, as well as support for the other sectors of the submarine.

For 2023, Nuclep will continue to develop and support the next stages of the construction project for the first Brazilian nuclear propulsion submarine.
