The Joinville Plant of the Nidec Global Group Becomes the First of the Group to Achieve Carbon Neutrality, Ahead of Schedule.
The Nidec Global Appliance Group, known for the Embraco brand, has achieved an important milestone. Its compressor manufacturing unit in Joinville has become the first factory of the Nidec group to achieve carbon neutrality in its operations. This achievement, recently celebrated, is a milestone not only for the company but also for the state of Santa Catarina, which gains prominence in the industrial sector.
Sustainable Goals and Commitment to the Environment
Carbon neutrality was achieved six years ahead of the deadline set by the Nidec group.
This effort is part of the sustainability goals that the Nidec Appliance, Commercial and Industrial Motors (ACIM) division committed to meeting by 2030.

In addition to achieving carbon neutrality, ACIM aims to increase the presence of women in executive positions, reduce the carbon footprint of its customers, and ensure that its suppliers adhere to appropriate environmental and social practices.
Path to the Future at the Joinville Plant
In recent years, the Joinville factory has implemented several changes to increase efficiency and minimize environmental impact.
The journey began with measuring carbon emissions, a process the company has been conducting since 2012.
This monitoring allowed the identification of the main sources of emissions in its operations, primarily the consumption of natural gas and electricity. In 2023, the Joinville unit emitted about 12,000 tons of CO₂.
To reduce these emissions, Nidec Global Appliance modernized equipment and optimized processes.
The Joinville plant now has more than 80 energy meters and a management system that provides real-time data on consumption.
The modernization of gas boilers and ovens led to a reduction of about 14% in gas consumption, while energy efficiency improved with the replacement of motors and air compressors.
Emission Offsetting and Technological Innovations
In addition to reduction measures, the Joinville factory also acquired international renewable energy certificates, which prove the sustainable origin of the energy used.
To offset remaining emissions, the company purchased carbon credits from projects recognized by the UN.
These actions reinforce Nidec Global Appliance’s commitment to sustainability. Guilherme Almeida, the company’s president, emphasizes that these investments not only helped achieve the goals but also resulted in significant savings in energy expenses.
The Joinville plant is also recognized for its products that help reduce carbon emissions throughout the refrigeration chain.
The Embraco brand compressors are designed to be efficient and use natural refrigerants, demonstrating Nidec’s intention to lead the industry sustainably.
In summary, the Nidec group plant in Joinville has achieved carbon neutrality in its operations, consolidating its position as a pioneer in the sector.
With operations focused on sustainability and innovation, Nidec Global Appliance continues to invest in a greener future.
