Discover The Largest Solar Park In Australia That Uses 2 Giant Gravity Batteries To Store 720 MW Of Energy, Revolutionizing The Renewable Energy Sector

The renewable energy sector in Australia is about to experience a significant technological breakthrough, thanks to the combined efforts of Energy Vault, a pioneering company in gravity storage technology, and Acen Renewables.

These companies recently announced their collaboration to build two large batteries next to the largest solar park in Australia, the New England solar project in New South Wales (NSW).

The New England Project

The New England solar park, once all its stages are completed, will achieve an impressive capacity of 720 MW. The first stage, which has already been completed, has 400 MW, while the second stage, currently under development, will add an additional 320 MW.

Acen Renewables had previously announced its intention to build a 200 MW and 400 MWh battery at this site. However, the strategy was adapted to split this capacity into two separate installations: one battery of 50 MW and 100 MWh, and another of 150 MW and 300 MWh.

Gravity Storage Technology

Energy Vault is known for its innovative approach that uses gravity to store energy. This technology operates similarly to pumped hydroelectric systems but uses solid masses. While it has generated both curiosity and skepticism, the company continues to advance its projects.

Recently, it put its first large-scale gravity storage project online in Rudong, China, with a capacity of 25 MW and 100 MWh.

Expected Impact And Benefits

Energy Vault emphasizes that these batteries, equipped with Siemens S120 inverters, will not only store energy but also improve grid stability. Image: Marlon_Trottmann – Depositphotos.

Energy Storage Optimization

The batteries in the New England project will be charged and discharged daily, designed to distribute stored renewable energy during peak consumption hours. This is crucial to meet high demand and reduce dependence on the aging coal fleet in the state.

Advanced Grid Energy Support

Energy Vault highlights that these batteries, equipped with Siemens S120 inverters, will not only store energy but also improve grid stability, providing support during disturbances and controlling reactive power.

Outlook And Future

Commitments And Collaborations

The current agreement is seen as just the first step in a long and fruitful relationship with Acen and its future renewable energy generation projects. Additionally, Energy Vault has established memorandums of understanding with key industry players and proposals for multi-gigawatt-hour storage with Ark Energy.

Financial Challenges And Advances

Despite revealing revenues of only US$ 7.8 million and a net loss of US$ 21.1 million in the first quarter, Energy Vault continues to develop its technology, demonstrating a reduction in losses compared to the previous year. This type of technological innovation requires significant investments but promises to transform the energy landscape.

The development of these batteries represents not only a technological advancement but also a commitment to Australia’s sustainable future. By implementing advanced storage solutions alongside the country’s largest solar park, Energy Vault and Acen Renewables are setting a precedent for the rest of the world in the transition to cleaner and more efficient energies.

Vão estocar luz levantando peso. Já pensou se fosse a Dilma que falasse isso.

A Dilma é visionária!!! Na época se chamava Wind Storage agora é energy vault!! A revolução dos $0,20 foi engolida pela extrema direita pra impor a pauta do sistema capitalista acima de tudo!!!
