The Turbo Flex Engine That Powers The New Renault Kardian Was The Great Winner In The Combustion Category At The 58th Edition Of The “Autoesporte Car Of The Year” Award, One Of The Most Important In The Domestic Industry.

The Brazilian automotive market learned at the end of 2024 about the great winner of one of its most prestigious awards. The Renault 1.0 TCe Horse was elected the Internal Combustion Engine of The Year 2025 at the “Car of The Year” award, organized by Autoesporte magazine. The recognition of the engine, which powers the newly launched Renault Kardian, represents a milestone for the French manufacturer in Brazil.

The award is significant not only for engineering excellence but also for breaking a long drought for the brand. It has been 25 years since Renault won a distinction in this engine category, positioning the company once again as a reference in powertrain innovation. The success is shared with Horse Powertrain, the engine developer.

The Recognition At The “Autoesporte Car Of The Year 2025” Award

The official announcement was made by Renault on November 27, 2024, a day after the award ceremony.

The 1.0 TCe Horse engine was the chosen one in one of the three engine categories of the edition: “Engine of The Year Combustion”. The selection was made by a jury comprised of six renowned automotive engineering and mechanics specialists in Brazil.

For Renault, the victory represents the success of its strategic plan “Renaulution”, initiated in 2021, which aims to renew the product line of the brand in the country.

The award is viewed as a validation of the quality and technology applied in its new vehicles, especially in the Renault Kardian.

The Secrets Of The Internal Combustion Engine Of The Year 2025

The Internal Combustion Engine Of The Year 2025 Was The Renault 1.0 TCe Horse (Kardian), Developed By Horse. This Engine Was Awarded In The Combustion Engine Of The Year Category Of The 2025 Car Of The Year Edition.

The Renault 1.0 TCe Horse is a turbocharged engine with Flex Fuel technology. Although the power and torque data of the awarded Brazilian version were not detailed in the source, the engine is consistently referred to as the “most powerful 1.0 turbo engine in Brazil”.

Its three-cylinder inline architecture aims to optimize efficiency and reduce weight. Renault’s TCe (Turbo Control Efficiency) technology is key to its performance, ensuring a quick turbo response and delivering power and torque in a linear and efficient manner, whether using gasoline or ethanol.

In independent tests, the Renault Kardian, equipped with this engine, demonstrated acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 10.9 seconds.

Who Is Horse Powertrain, The New Giant Of Engines Behind Renault And Geely?

The developer of the Internal Combustion Engine Of The Year 2025 is Horse Powertrain. The company was formally established in May 2024 as a joint venture equally owned by the Renault Group and Chinese Geely.

In December 2024, the energy giant Saudi Aramco also became a shareholder, acquiring a 10% stake.

The mission of Horse Powertrain is to develop internal combustion engines, hybrid systems, and low-emission transmissions.

The company operates a global network with eight factories and three R&D centers, including units in Brazil, Argentina, and Chile. The award received for one of its first major projects serves as crucial validation of its technological capabilities.

The success of the engine cannot be analyzed in isolation. The Renault Kardian, the compact SUV that debuts the 1.0 TCe engine, was also the great winner of the night, taking home the main award of “Car Of The Year 2025” in its category (vehicles up to R$ 200,000).

This dual victory demonstrates that Renault has achieved a successful synergy between engine and vehicle. The performance of the award-winning engine complements the qualities of the Kardian platform, resulting in a final product recognized for its excellence.

In comparisons, the Kardian stands out with urban fuel consumption of 13.2 km/l, surpassing rivals like the VW Nivus (12 km/l) and the Fiat Pulse (10.4 km/l).

The Weight Of The Title For The Automotive Industry

The “Autoesporte Car Of The Year” is the most important and traditional award in the Brazilian automotive industry, reaching its 58th edition in 2025. Winning in the category Internal Combustion Engine Of The Year 2025 carries significant weight, as the evaluation is made by a jury of engineers and technical specialists.

This means that the victory of the 1.0 TCe Horse is based on engineering merits, such as innovation, efficiency, and robustness. For Renault, the award helps to reposition the brand as a leader in engine technology, and for Horse Powertrain, it serves as a powerful marketing tool and proof of its competence for future business partners.

O motor é interessante. Há muitas novidades nele, que é quase idêntico ao que será usado no novo kicks. Problema é que o istagiario está com preguiça de levantar os dados técnicos do motor em questão. Culpa do feriado!

Quais os números? Potência…? Torque? É por correia ou corrente. Material bem mais ou menos. Muito estranho isso. Tenho um Pulse 1.0 e duvido que seja mais potente.
