Ocyan Waves startup projects

Rio de Janeiro, November 26, 2020 – The second edition of Ocyan Waves Challenge held this week final pitch with the virtual presentation of the four startups that reached the pilot project development stage. Throughout the event, entrepreneurs exposed their projects, with positive results and difficulties encountered.

“It was enriching for us to get here, in the face of such an adverse year, counting on Ocyan's entire support structure and team. Innovation at the company has been expanding at an accelerated pace and, in two years with Ocyan Waves, we have found great solutions to improve our operations. The program is going to the third edition in 2021 and we only have reasons to be proud”, said Jorge Mitidieri, vice president of Ocyan.

More about Ocyan

Throughout the event, the startup from Ceará Delphi, from Paraná Vidya Technology, the paulista XMachine and the carioca PhDsoft explained the entire process of the last 90 days until reaching the finalization of the pilot. The objective is to meet the internal challenges proposed by Ocyan. After each presentation, an evaluation of each startup was sent to the members who proposed the challenge.

Among the challenges proposed by the company were the search for solutions for managing alarms, through Delphi; BOP's digital twin (Subsea Blowout Preventer), through the Vidya; real-time BOP fluid analysis by XMachine; plus fault prediction and topdrive hose management with PhDsoft. All challenges refer to technical issues related to vessel operations in offshore drilling and production activities.

“In this last stage, Ocyan will define which of the startups will become the company's suppliers. There were 106 entries, 20 of them selected for the initial Pitch Day, five for immersion and four for the pilot phase. The strong mobilization of the innovation sector already shows the success of the program”, highlights Maximiliano Carlomagno, from Innoscience, the innovation consultancy contracted to support Ocyan Waves.

According to Rodrigo Lemos, director responsible for Ocyan Waves, the path of the program is always to aim for experience and learning, regardless of mistakes or successes and whether or not to follow the pilot presented by the startup. “What we saw just demonstrates how important synergy with startups is. Engagement means that we have to think about solutions in a different way than what was initially defined, which will guarantee a long life for Ocyan Waves”, concluded the executive.

If Ocyan decides to hire the startups, the effective application of the solution begins, hiring the startup as a supplier for Ocyan and the perspective for development for 2021.
