In 2020, the offshore wind energy sector received US$ 303 billion in investments and acquired authorization to install 6,1 GW across the planet. These achievements were the result of a long period of development, with this industry growing 30% from 2010 to 2018. For the next year, 150 new projects in the field are expected to be completed.
Bureau Veritas solutions include the certification of complete wind farm projects, regulatory support, assessment of environmental impact studies, technical support for connections to the electrical grid, certification of all project stages, as well as owner engineering, contract and supervision of works. During the manufacture of equipment, the company also works with the decision of suppliers, speed of manufacture of equipment and monitoring of factory inspection tests.
“We are already an international reference in Offshore Wind Energy and we believe that this is the right time to bring all our expertise to Brazil”, pointed out the manager of Energy & Utilities at Bureau Veritas, Lucas Martins. “The country has remarkable technical and geographic potential to receive investments and our solid experience in the segment allows us to offer customized solutions, meeting all regional specificities and guaranteeing quality and excellence to the market.”, He stated.
Brazil's potential for offshore wind power
The Associação Brasileira de Eólicas Marítimas hopes that the new source of offshore wind energy generation can be part of the Brazilian matrix as early as 2025, considering the 22 current projects that are already in the licensing phase in the country. Combining the installation potential of 480 GW of the fixed turbine and 748 GW of the floating turbine to the 8 thousand kilometers of coastal area and winds that can reach up to 32,4 km/h, will make the country one of the main sources of offshore wind energy.
