This specialized guide presents the champions of fuel economy. Our goal is to help you choose among the used compact SUVs that consume the least fuel. The analysis uses reliable data for a well-informed decision.

Compact SUVs have won the hearts of Brazilians. Their versatility and design attract many consumers. However, the intense traffic of cities and the price of fuels make fuel economy a crucial factor. The search for energy efficiency is increasingly important.

How We Found The Champions Of Fuel Economy: The Methodology Behind The Ranking

To identify the most economical used compact SUVs, our analysis is based on official data. We used information from the Brazilian Vehicle Labeling Program (PBE Veicular). This program is coordinated by the National Institute of Metrology, Quality and Technology (INMETRO). The PBE Veicular is the benchmark for measuring vehicle consumption in Brazil.

We focused on consumption figures in urban cycles, both for gasoline and ethanol. We considered data from 2018 and 2020, representing common vehicles in the used market. The selection of models follows the “Compact Sports Utility” category of INMETRO. It is important to note that this classification may include models like the Renault Kwid, which, due to its efficiency, stands out, although its categorization as an SUV is a peculiarity of the institute for some versions.

Other Good Options: Honorable Mentions In Fuel Economy

Besides the top 5, other used compact SUVs that consume the least fuel deserve consideration. The Honda HR-V 1.8 CVT has urban averages of 11.0 km/l with gasoline. The Hyundai Creta 1.6 manual records 10.4 km/l with gasoline. Newer models, such as VW Nivus 1.0 TSI AT, Chevrolet Tracker 1.0 Turbo AT (new generation), and Fiat Pulse (1.3 AT or 1.0 Turbo AT), already appear as used vehicles with good efficiency. The new generation of the Tracker, for example, improved fuel consumption significantly, with urban averages close to 11.2 km/l (gasoline) for the 1.0 Turbo AT engine.
