The Plan Also Includes Paving 400 Km of Rural Roads and Coastline Throughout the State of Paraná
The state of Paraná, in southern Brazil, will invest 4 billion reais (US $ 760 million) in infrastructure projects. The majority of the investments will be allocated to improving the state’s highways, said Governor Carlos Massa Ratinho Junior.
“We have highways that were built in the 1970s and 1980s that are still in use today, from a time when traffic and even the size of trucks were much smaller,” he said. “Many Paraná highways have become dangerous because there has been no increase in load capacity and concern for safety.”
As part of the plan, 560 km of a third lane will be built on highways PR-280 and PR-323, between the cities of Maringá and Umuarama, and along PR-092.

Project on the Coast
The state government will invest R $ 513 million in the revitalization of the Matinhos waterfront. “We will make significant investments to recover the coastline and enhance the region’s development,” said the governor.
Financing
The financing for the projects, amounting to R $ 1.6 billion, was recently secured from federal public creditors Banco do Brasil and Caixa Econômica Federal.
An additional R $ 1 billion has been secured from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).
The state government will also use R $ 500 million from a recent leniency agreement with highway concessionaires involved in irregularities in the Integration Ring project.
