Paris Is Preparing to Host the 2024 Olympics with an Impressive Investment of Over $11 Billion in Megaprojects. The City Is Undertaking Grand Works to Ensure That the Games, Which Start on July 26 and Are Expected to Attract More Than 15 Million Visitors, Are a Total Success.
Paris and Los Angeles were the finalist cities to host the games for 2024 and 2028, respectively, after other candidates withdrew due to financial difficulties. Paris, which previously hosted the games in 1924, was determined to be the host in 2024. Initially, the budget was $9.5 billion, but it rose to around $11 billion due to rising costs.
To host the games, Paris opted to minimize new constructions and utilize existing sites, in addition to installing temporary arenas in strategic locations. One of the most notable examples is the temporary arena at the foot of the Eiffel Tower, designated for beach volleyball competitions, with a capacity of 12,000 people. This arena was built with lightweight and recyclable materials, facilitating its disassembly after the games. Another temporary structure in the same area will be used for triathlon and cycling events.
Other Central Areas of Paris Will Also Be Transformed, with Temporary Arenas in Historical Sites Such as the Grand Palais, Which Will Host Fencing and Taekwondo
Outside the center, the Stade de France will host rugby and athletics events, and the Palace of Versailles will see its gardens transformed into venues for equestrian and modern pentathlon events.

One of the few new permanent constructions is the Paris Aquatic Center, near the Stade de France. This center was specifically designed for the games, with an initial capacity of 6,000 spectators, which will be reduced after the event to ensure a sustainable legacy.
Another Impressive Megaproject Is the Cleaning of the River Seine
The river, which suffers from high levels of pollution, will be transformed into a focal point of the Olympics, both for sporting events such as the swimming marathon and triathlon, as well as a symbol of urban renewal. The project includes the construction of a colossal rainwater reservoir beneath the Austerlitz train station, designed to prevent untreated sewage from being discharged into the river during heavy rains.

The megaprojects in Paris for the 2024 Olympics represent a significant investment in infrastructure, aiming not only for the success of the games but also for a lasting legacy for the city.
